Q: Does the cover have a zipper? or it has to cover table/chairs from top to the bottom?

This cover has handles to help with putting it on over tables and chairs. It has no zipper. You basically have to throw it over and adjust accordingly. There are toggle clips to tighten the hem. This is the first time I have purchased this cover only a short while ago and spent considerable time researching as I wanted a quality cover and it is to be honest not that great in terms of the material that has already considerable faded on the top which makes it look quite ugly! My table and chairs set sit on my patio and is in full view through my bifold doors even when they are not in use so very disappointed that it has faded after a very short time with minimal direct sunlight too.

Q: I have a 48" table. Should I order a 60" to make it easier for 1 person to put on?

Don't think so, will be too sloppy.

Q: table is 42 inches round, 4 chairs 38 inch height, what size should i order?

I ordered the 60 inch for a 36inch table and its snug. I think you should order the next size up, the 76 inch.

Q: Would this work for a square table and chairs 78w x 78d?

I would not think so as this is for a round table with chairs. They do also make square and rectangle covers as well, which is what you need.
