My six year old loves checkers. I bought him this set for Christmas and he loves it. It is very good quality wooden set. My only complaint is in the design of the pieces. When you "king" a player the pieces do not stay together, they are smooth on the bottom unlike the plastic sets that have the grooves. Also, for a smaller child the smooth pieces slide around on the board very easily.
