No noticeable change
This product sounds good in concept. Give your thirsty skin some sips of water before locking in that moisture with a moisturizer. In the moment, yes, there’s a hint of hydration and cells plumping up and saying “Mmmm.” But that’s about it. Add moisturizer and 10 minutes later there’s no noticeable difference. I know; a couple mornings and evenings in a row, I used this before moisturizing one side of my face — forehead to chin and down to the tan line on my neck — and went without it on the other half. That approach also enables me to say that neither did it make my sometimes fussy skin react to it negatively. And the light fragrance was pleasant, lingering briefly before disappearing. I do live in a pretty humid climate, so sun and wind or forgetting to drink enough water are the usual reasons my face sometimes feels dry. Those who live in drier climates or who have to make it through cold winters and hot summers might get more benefit from this than I did.

Any Number of The Non-water Ingredients Made My Sensitive Skin Red & Flaky; Had To Consult Dermatologist
I used this product every day for 2 weeks. I was so enthused by its possibilities that I had the follow-up product - Aqualia Thermal Power Serum - in my Amazon cart. I removed it for the following reasons. This Vichy Aqualia Thermal Hydrating Refreshing Water made it difficult to apply my favorite tinted moisturizer. It was blotchy and not blendable. It did not slide across my face which is why I like that tinted SPF moisturizer so much. But I persisted. Over time, flakes and redness around my mouth started to appear. It could be a reaction to the active ingredients, which are water, glycerin, and castor oil. Or any number of color dyes . Or the version of polyethylene glycol which is derived from bees wax. (I also have reactions to most bee products from a guy whose name begins with "B".) Or the copper sulfate, which in large enough quantity dissolves roots from plumbing pipes. Or the chelation agent disodium EDTA, which is probably beibg used as a preservative. Or the "parfum", which could be anything. Or the myrtrimonium bromide, which is an ammonium salt.So I cannot say what my skin reacted to, but react it did. I had to discontinue the product and get a prescription from my dermatologist for the redness which also tightened my skin painfully.Yes, it sounds like plain old innocuous water. And it was indeed tested on "asian (sic) sensitive skin". But not on mine anymore. (I am neither asian nor Asian.)But I have admittedly wonky skin. If you have wonky skin, I would not recommend this. If you have admirably normal, normal dry, or otherwise non-sensitive skin, then I would say yes, give this product a try. But know that you are getting a lot more than just water.

The Extra Little Moisturizing Boost My Skin Needed
The Vichy Aqualia Thermal Facial Essence Water works very well as a supplement to my usual facial moisturizer. Apparently designed to "add an extra layer of hydration" to skin, I did find that this water was effective at keeping my usually dry patches on my face moisturized. I have combination normal/dry skin, and often when I use moisturizers, my normal patches get a bit greasy feeling while my dry patches show no significant change (aka, my skin is still dry and flaky). After using the Essence Water for a few weeks now, I've noticed that my entire face is well moisturized without being oily in some patches and flaky on others. It's really helped simplify my facial routine, and the results are overall positive. The Essence Water has a consistency of water, so it would be prudent to either use a cotton pad to apply, or to put this into a spray bottle. Why Vichy didn't put it into a spray bottle to begin with is a bit confusing to me since using one really makes application much easier. The Essence Water has a light floral scent to it which vanishes quite quickly. I used it with my normal moisturizer and found that the scents paired well and didn't conflict with each other. I did try using this water by itself, but it wasn't moisturizing enough for my skin, so keep in mind that this works best as a supplement. I would likely buy this Essence Water in the future simply because seems to work, and gives my skin that extra little boost it needs. Overall, it was the missing piece I've been looking for in my skincare routine - it's a simple, but good light moisturizer.

Heaven in a Bottle
Vichy's Aqualia is basically water on steroids. It is light, hydrating, and a pleasure to use. I tend to be lax about skin care routines and rarely bother with makeup, but I am using Aqualia regularly because I absolutely adore the light, mildly floral fragrance. This product not only smells wonderful, it doesn't set off any sinus twitching in my chemically-sensitive nose. That's a very good thing. My oily youth has paid off - my very mature skin isn't terribly dry, so this product is perfect for me. I use it morning and night after washing my face (and sometimes in the afternoon because it's so refreshing). I just put a little on a cotton pad and rub it in. It seems to clean my skin a little more after the soap, which is pretty impressive. And it feels sooo good.Aqualia absolutely keeps my face more hydrated than it normally would be - that's obvious on drier days. On very dry days, I put a little moisturizing cream on top of it, especially if I'm going out.I've been testing this product in winter and I love how refreshing it is. In summer, it's going to be over-the-moon pleasurable to use! I will be purchasing more before this bottle runs out. While not inexpensive, if you don't soak your cotton pad too heavily, this will last quite a while. (I don't recommend using cotton balls because they will make it go too fast.) If your skin is anything but very dry, I'd recommend giving Thermal Facial Essence Water a try.If you wear makeup, this is a great light moisturizer
