Terrific product, needs lots more pieces
My 8-year-old loved making a restaurant with this with her friend. They were so proud of the fan and light they made, and they included tons of details. For long-term play value, however, the kit needs to include about 4 times as many pieces as it does. It's quite small, only one little room. My daughter's imagination could go wild if there were enough pieces to build a two- or three-story dollhouse or castle, or anything with multiple rooms and stairs going between the rooms, etc. Good idea but needs tweaking -- can the manufacturer please find a way to sell a much bigger kit without the kit becoming too expensive?

A new classic!
I bought this for my granddaughter and was a little bit disappointed at how small the box was when it came. She was delighted with it though and as she unpacked it and started to play, I realized this is a very special toy.It prompts open ended creative play. She built her first room, papered and decorated it and then started looking around for other things she had for her play. After deciding on a few Lego figurines, she started building furniture. (We're saving the circuits for her playtime with her dad because that's his passion. He'd love to have this special "first" with her I think.) I called today and she's still excited about it. She sent me a few texts bubbling about play and wanting to talk. She just turned six if that gives you an idea. I think even a young child would enjoy this set with help and will definitely grow into doing builds, decorating, cutting, etc. as she gets older. This set lends itself to lots of different types of builds. You can easily add more decorative paper and any other art supplies you like. You may find your child looking at boxes too in different ways. I can't wait to see what she does when she gets to start playing with the wiring. This is a great toy. I think it will beome a new classic. The one con is that it doesn't come with batteries. For the price of nearly $50, that was a bit disappointing. If you order, check the batteries you'll need and take care of that too so your girl can hit the ground running.

8 year old loved it!
Bought this for an 8 year old girl. I wasn't sure if she would like it since she typically likes her dolls best. But we looked at some videos and pics on the website and became very interested. She built her first big project today...making amusement park swings. I just wish it included more than 1 motor and light. She has no interest in the stickers at this point...she just wants more pieces to be able to build more! I highly recommend it for anyone looking for a different kind of toy for a young g irl! Although, I do think some boys would like this too! They probably would not build "doll houses" but forts and contraptions! The walls are all white and you tape paper to them to give it color so the possibilities are endless! Finally, I wish Amazon carried the expansion packs that are available on the Roominate website!

LOVE!!!
I was looking for something a little different this Christmas. My daughter loves to invent things (there are many a "homemade" invention laying around my house, and when I can't find something its usually because she's added it to one of her "creations"). I was disappointed to see that many of the products out there are for boys. So when I came across this, I had to have it. Its one of the things under the Christmas tree that I can't wait for us to play with! I foresee us adding on to this collection and I hope Romminates keep's expanding because there is a whole market out there for girls (and their moms) who would rather play with this stuff than the proverbial "girls toys".

Not worth it looks great in advertising
Not worth it looks great in advertising, but in person complete waste of money. It ended up in the trash a couple weeks later

I wish that I liked this more
I wish that I liked this more. Bought it for my daughter thinking that it would be a good mix of creativity, building and circuit design. I really wanted to love it. Unfortunately, the product just isn't that well made. The motor is too heavy to be held well by the pieces (this was building a design it comes with ) and the circuit designs are rudimentary. There is nowhere to progress once you have built the basic circuit. Compare with snap circuits built for the same age which teaches parallel circuits etc through progression. Putting it all in the building design is nice, but think getting her lego friends and snap circuits is a better design and educational choice.

I REALLY wanted to love this product
I REALLY wanted to love this product! Actually, I wanted to send it back immediately when I saw how small the box was (for $50 I expected a lot more!) but decided to give it a chance. My 8 year old daughter likes the fact that she can build furniture and make a neat fan or windmill but getting a sturdy structure has been difficult and frustrating. Overall, I like the idea but the $50 price tag is completely ridiculous.

Love STEM products for girls but this set falls short
My granddaughters age 8 and age 5 loved the deluxe roominate set I gave the 8 yr old for her birthday. They spent hours building with their Dad to complete the project. Many assorted support boards were needed to be found and cut at home to make this project work. And so I felt that not enough materials were included for a $50.00 price point. They were enchanted by the working fan and light. Unfortunately there are no more extra circuits available anywhere to add to the set.

Get girls interested in architecture and electronics
Great for girls (7-10, probably) who like Lego or similar products, but want to branch out and build their own creations and add working parts (lights or fan). A bit pricey (almost double US prices) but lots of potential for future play.
