Tipton Nylon Bore Brush .17 Caliber 3 Pack with Durable Wire Core and Nylon Bristles for Firearm Cleaning and Maintenance

I've started using nylon or polymer brushes to keep from damaging the bore of my firearms. These work well and seem durable enough to last awhile.

I don't use brass brushes any more, and I never used stainless brushes. I prefer to wrap a patch around a nylon brush, soak it with BoreTech bore cleaning solution, and pull it from chamber to muzzle using an Otis cable. BoreTech makes my favorite brushes but these Tipton brushes are nearly identical. They have plated steel wire to secure the bristles (they do not shed bristles) and the threaded tips are aluminum. The steel should never come in contact with the bore so there should be no bore damage unless you are very reckless in jamming these brushes into a bore. It would seem to be impossible to have the twisted steel wire center section to contact the bore when pulling the brush with a cable. The aluminum tip won't scratch the bore, and (this is for the big win) there is no false blue indication of copper when cleaning copper fouling out of the bore. If you use a brass brush, or a brush with a brass threaded tip, you can see phantom copper evidence from the brush so you'll never know when the copper has been cleaned from the bore. These brushes last a LONG time, so they're a good value. A good bore cleaning solution like BoreTech Eliminator does the work for you, particularly if you run a wet patch and clean the rest of the gun while it's doing its thing, and then run a couple of more wet patches and an oil patch to finish, so you should never need to work up a sweat scrubbing a bore. Most people scrub the bore too much. Less is more in this case. More bore life. More accuracy longer.

I usually buy Hoppe's bronze brushes but after reading the reviews on the Tipton's I decided to give them a try, Tipton is better. They are tight but not too tight, nylon is gentle but gets the job done. They use the standard 8-32 thread which should fit most rods or pull-throughs.

Well made brushes; strong enough to clean well but non-abrasive to rifling. I cringe when I think how much over cleaning a lot of rifle barrels are subjected to, with bronze brushes. I was certainly guilty of this in my younger days, especially in Army. We really over did the barrel brushing.I purchased 3 of these brushes, sizes .22 (using for both .22LR and 5.56mm), .25/6.5mm (perfect for my much loved 6.5 Swede) and .30-.32 (using this for .30 cal Marlin). Sizing is correct and brushes hold solvent well. Using with 1-piece Tipton cleaning rods; good match. Have used the .22 and 6.5 several times now with no noticeable wear to brush. Rifling is bright and shiny after brushing a few times and running patches through. Only wish Tipton would make chamber brushes of same material, especially for the AR chamber.Storage protection: these brushes also work well for leaving a heavier oil coating in barrel for storage; just coat brush with good protective oil (I like Ballistol for this; mineral oil formula is stable; Amazon carries it) and push through once, unscrew. Just remember to run a patch through to clean excess oil before next range day. Local gun store does not carry these so appreciate Amazon stocking.

These are especially useful when using a copper cleaner as they do not have brass bristles that will turn color making one think copper fouling is an issue when it is actually the brass bristle causing the color.

These are nice! I do like that you get 3 of each size in one package. Durable/well made. Beats the heck out of the brass brushes. Strong and stout.

Great nylon bore brushes. I use them with certain chemicals that are required to remove a carbon ring in the throat area of the barrel .I like the ability to reverse the nylon that could cause damage with a bronze brush. The makers of some of my fine match grade barrels recommend nylon brushes to protect the bore. I've been told by several barrel makers that more barrels are ruined by improper cleaning than by shooting. I'll take their word for it. These brushes last a long time and seem almost impervious to solvents that dissolve bronze brushes over time.Ive been using several in different calibers and have yet to replace one.
