Works great! (50ppi)
I read a lot of reviews before purchasing. There were a lot of dissatisfied reviews because it comes vacuum packed.First of all, I was not in a hurry to use the filter. I got it out of the bag, gently stretch it out. Then I left it alone. When I got back to it but 2 weeks later, it was reinstated.I've been using it for several weeks now. Rinsing it off about twice a week because it has been filtring out the fine particles and keeping our pond water clear! It's still in good shape. Whereas the polyester filter pads cannot be cleaned out thoroughly and breaks down after a few washes. The fibers then just gets into the water.I would buy this again. Hopefully they keep the quality and not bastardize the product.

Follow Instructions - Only One Filter
The foam arrived as a very small vacuum-sealed package, inside a well branded box. The instructions were to remove from the vacuum-sealed bag, carefully unfold foam, soak in warm water to return to normal size, then lay flat to air dry. Worked great. As an aside, all product images show three different foams. However, only the foam that is selected will be included. If you're not sure which foam density to order, this is not a variety pack, and should not be ordered.

Vacuum Compressed
This biofilter media looks like a crushed blob out of the box. Ignore the instructions that tell you to try to unfold - you will tear the media. Instead, plop it in a bucket of water and about 24 hours later after a turn or two it expands and will easily unfold to the advertized size. Cut with kitchen scissors and it's good to go. If you run hang on back filters, the 19x19x0.79 size sheet could be a year or more supply on whether you reuse or toss and one to three layers if you cannister. 0.79inch thick is probably best for most hang on back filters.

Purpose for use, adequate for size of environment.
Have a small garden pond with 6 fish, about a 50 gal. pond tub, filter box about 12" x 12" and made a waterfall, in backyard. Use a UV light instead of chemicals to keep clear. Working great about 8 years.

Quality Filter
I like these sponge filters for aquarium use. They filter the smaller particles out of the water which helps to keep the water crystal clear. They are reusable. Just rinse and replace it back into the filter system. I never have to replace them even after much time has went by. I also like that they can be easily cut so as to customize it to your liking. Cannot go wrong with these. This was ordered for a NEW aquarium that is beingset up.

Clean 🧼 Water, Happy Fish
You must start with clean water 💦 otherwise water will stink and create a unpleasant smell within the area location. If you can’t dump out the water then apply a store purchased filter and apply this Shunting filter behind it where the water passes through it and through the store filter into the aquarium water (you may need to narrow out the filter otherwise store filter and shunting filter thickness may not fit together). This will help store filter last longer plus store filter can help remove the odor smell. You’ll have to keep cleaning a few times the shunting filter and reapply behind the store filter. You’ll notice as in time, Oder within the water goes away with clean sparkling water. That’s when I removed the store filter and just used the shunting filter and since then, no odor because of clean water.I’m assuming because my aquarium water must of been filthy and there was nothing killing the smell yet smelly water going right back into the aquarium.Had to replace my store filter twice before my 20 gallon tank became clean then afterwards just been using shunting filter alone.Hope this helps. I share this because not knowing, I thought I went from bad to worst and was about to avoid the shunting filter.

There's no place like foam - -
At Last! A product with good instructions and directions. Uniquely packaged, and went to work as promised. It has only been in use a short time, but so far, it is just what I expected and needed. Good stuff!

Molto buono e sagomabile.
Ottimo materiale filtrante, compatto facile da tagliare e sagomare, io l'ho usato per un filtro1200 plus della tetra, il materiale e abbastanza buono fa il suo lavoro e rimane compatto anche se tagliato.

good item but badly cut, not full size
I found it wasn't easy to unfold the foam from the pack, so be carefully not to tear it when unfolding, take your time and ease the foam gently, I did it OK, i never had anything to put this 50cm square foam in, for the soaking, so i got 4x 3"x2" lengths of wood laid out in a square with a couple house bricks to stop them moving and laid a plastic sheet inside (see pic) and filled with water, worked a treat. the foam was at full size within an hour. One (disappointing) problem, the sheet is not the full stated size :( because of a badly cut edge (see pics), one side is OK (50cm) but the other size starts at 50cm but tapers in to 48cm, nearly an inch difference, so disappointed, as i was going to cut the foam in half to make 2 filter foams for my 25cm wide filter box so not so happy.
