USED! These are very Very VERY USED disks, definitely NOT NEW!!
25% of these disks failed within a two weeks. The ‘smartctl’ tool I n Linux shows each drive has been powered on for 5 years each.Definitely was NOT what I expected based on textual description used by the vendor. These drives have been used for a long time.I could not find any indication in the product page on Amazon that these are used disks at all even after looking several times after some stopped working.I’m taking the time to write this review because it took me about 10 hours to recover my data, and that’s because I had a fault-tolerant RAID which used the disks I bought here.If someone plans to buy just one of these, definitely DO NOT do it, because there could be unrecoverable data loss.

Certified Refurbished drive.
Absolutely nowhere in the product description does it state that this is a "Certified Refurbished" hard drive. The hdd I recieved was shipped with a card stating the above, was in a resealed static bag, and had fingerprints, scuffs and dust all over it.If I had wanted to purchase a refurbished drive, I would have bought an hdd described as "certified refurbished" for $15 less. The resellers website (which is listed for warranty support) is a blank holding page, so I wouldnt count on them backing up their handwritten "5" year warranty.

Great upgrade for an aging drive
My old 12yo 2tb HDD, 90% full with all my games and multimedia, started failing and getting SMART errors. Shopping for a deal, I came across this drive and it checked off all the qualities I was looking for -- greater than 2TB, 7200rpm, decent cache size, new, great price, reliable brand, and one of the best warranties on Amazon for new old-stock drives. It took around 12 hours to copy 1.85TB from my old drive to this one and I was back in business.Ended up setting it up with ZFS using ashift=12, encryption (edonr, verify), deduplication, 1M record size, and compression (lz4) and ended up with ~3.5TB in usable space. One of these days I'll order a 2nd one of these drives to upgrade my zpool from a single disk to a mirror. These drives are perfect for ZFS on Linux users. My only negative remark would be that this drive is a bit louder than the one it replaced. Since I'm unable to close the side of my system due to my GPU being a quarter inch too wide, that's something that others with a more acoustically sound system may not notice.

A Fine large fast inexpensive disk
What can you say about a commodity item like a disk drive. It works the way it's supposed to work. The 4 TB capacity is huge and it also determines the density of bits on a track. Combining the density with the 7200 RPM rotational speed determines the transfer rate off the disk surface. Since that transfer rate is much lower that the SATA 6 GB/S transfer rate, the disk can read data into the cache and the computer can drain the cache fast enough that the cache never fills up. This is true of all 4 TB 7200 RPM drives. Most of them cost a lot more than this one. and most of them don't come with the long warranty that this one has. The only real question is how long will it last? Since the answer to that question should be several years, you're unlikely to see any reviews with a useful answer.

Unknown at time of purchase this drive was refurbished and it failed within a week.
the description on Amazon did not say that this was a refurbished drive, but upon opening the box there was a notice that it was a refurbished product. I installed the drive and it lasted for about a week and then failed. I had to remove the drive and return it. Bought another drive that I was sure was new, ,which has been working fine. I do not recommend this drive and further recommend that refurbished drives should not be purchased.
