Incredible, extremely detailed yet not even remotely boring
A period of history which is rather under covered, in English anyway is displayed here is massive detail and written in an extremely interesting way. I blew through this in a few days and considering it's nearly 800 pages, that says a lot about how much of a page turner it is. I can't wait for the second installment of the trilogy to be translated to English and for the finale too, god knows how many year's that'll be ready in English. 100% worth it, one of the best books I've ever read.If you're worried about bias, as in how almost every book about 20th century dictators is written crying about how bad they are and down playing the other sides failings, you won't find it here. This is extremely well balanced and explores all sides of the political spectrum at the time in detail.

A good if challenging read
This is a very long novel but for someone interested in the politics of the time well worth the time required to read it. Some may find its objective treatment of Mussolini and Italian fascism challenging (media reviews insist that the story told is very accurate).

Fascinating portraits of D'Annunzio and Mussolini.
Excellent, informative and easy to read. I am finding the book riveting. Gail Williams
