ABUSGranit 640 U-Lock

This is a good lock that seems solid and it's small/light to carry. The down-side to this is that it isn't very long. If you are trying to lock to a thick bike rack it may not reach. Also, the key is a little bit tricky to line up but you get used to that.

Easy to pack and a great quality lock. The smaller size makes it a little more challenging to lock up in certain situations but the weight savings are worth it.

This lock has a very high security rating in independent testing and is unusually light for its size. Fits right into the u-lock pocket on a Chrome Buran III messenger bag. Tumbler seems smooth, not worried it's going to seize up and leave me stranded like Onguard tumblers do.I can't fairly give it a fifth star because it's too small to reach the front wheel. Maybe it can on some bikes; I have an 80s mountain bike with 26" rims. But even with safety skewers, I'm worried someone will jack my front wheel and I'd prefer it locked up. I live in a big city with a rather obvious meth problem and open air bike chop shops/graveyards visible from the highway. So people in lower crime areas can give it five stars; might not be ideal for NYC, Portland .etc -- go one size longer?

I've had one of these for about nine years, and just bought a 2nd for my kid to use with their e-bike. It's just big enough to attach most bikes to most objects you might want to lock to, without much space for a jack or pry bar. It fits in a large pocket or a trunk bag. If you want to secure wheels, saddle, etc, you're going to need a steel cable as well, but even without that for most stops it makes stealing the bike more hassle than a thief is going to accept.

This is a great little lock that came highly rated on a few external bike specialist sites. One of the reviews was a side by side comparison of competing products, subjected to the highest pressures using machines that simulated the most common methods thieves use to break locks.NOTE: To complete this setup you will want to get the Abus mounting kits parts that fit this lock. It comes in two parts: 1) ABUS Shackle Clamp for 640 U Lock - 2) ABUS TexKF-Mini Lock Carrier. It was a bit confusing to nail down exactly what parts would work for this lock....also, finding a supplier on here that carried them that would deliver them in a reasonable time frame during Covid era. (try lockitt).The lock mounts perfectly on my Trek DS2 with the above setup. Also note that once you have the shackle (part the fits on the U bar of the lock) - you will have to shave some of the vinyl off the bar to get the shackle far enough up on the bar (at first it won't seem to fit, you'll see what I mean once you have the shackle and try to get it on. Its very easy to cut the vinyl away with a box knife.

Very sturdy, arrived with 2 keys. A bit heavy but works great. Box cover was a bit dirty/dusty.

Doesn't fit around every bike rack. Just be aware that it's a smaller lock and it will be nearly impossible to lock both a wheel and the frame to the bike rack or post at the same time. But I do love this lock.

My son loves how heavy and sturdy this lock is for his bike. Great buy and good seller, item was shipped well packaged.

Comprato scontato, lo uso insieme al cavo K per assicurare sia telaio che ruote al palo. Rispetto al K lo trovo più facile da aprire. E' leggero e le chiavi in dotazione non sono cilindriche cosa che permette una più facile duplicazione. Buon indice di protezione.

War erst skeptisch wegen der Größe (ist ja ziemlich klein) aber Entwarnung, man findet immer einen Bügel oder Gitter oder sonstige Möglichkeit das Rad sicher anzuschließen. Das Schloss hat eine super schöne Haptik, es ist leicht und trotzdem sehr sicher. Ich habe viele Schlösser Abus Granit x Plus, Bordo Granit usw. Die sind mir aber meist zu schwer. Eine gute Alternative ist auch das Trelock U4Plus auch sehr leicht und sicher. Das Abus Granit 640 ist jetzt mein Favorit passt gut in fast jede Tasche oder Rucksack. Klare kaufempfehlung.Nachtrag: hab’s jetzt 4 Wochen gebraucht und super schloss - leider hakelt das Schloss extrem. Hab Probleme mit ab - und aufschließen. Hab’s heute zurück geschickt. Ich bestells mir nochmal neu u dann mal sehen…..

I'm very happy with it. I read some other reviews about this type of locks in which apparently some people had issues to insert the key; I inserted the key many many times and I never experienced any kind of difficulty. Tip: you have to insert the key all the way in! It's a matter of how to use it properly and not because the Abus lock quality!

Brilliant, just what I wanted. This complements the Abus Granit XPLUS, I already have. It is relatively light and compact, perfect for securing my rear wheel to the bike frame.
