    Solid pressing, great value

I already knew that I liked the music on this album, so this is specifically for the vinyl. In the grand scheme of things, this is probably a 4 star product, but for the price (I paid $14), this is more than I expected. Most importantly, the pressing is a solid quality. You're not getting a ton in terms of the sleeve/case, but for a vinyl release under $20 I feel that this is pretty standard.

    Danny Brown grows up

*by B***O on December 12, 2013*

This album is gonna take awhile to penetrate the mainstream, and I'm not sure yet if I prefer this or XXX, but goddamn it's good. The clever "Side A/Side B" switch makes this a full-on concept album and is a great followup to the more backwards looking XXX. Also, on a sillier note and as a fan, I was excited to hear Danny Brown's, a consumate hedonist, take on Molly and this album does not disappoint in that regard. On a technical note, the beats are fantastic. It's different from his earlier stuff, less J-Dilla inflected soul beats(although that's still there to a large degree) and more of an eclectic mix of grime, triphop and dubstep. The guest appearances are also stellar, Schoolboy Q's verses on "Dope Fiend Rental" confirm him as one hell of a rhymer, and the narrative strength Brown showed on previous releases is in top form here.Overall, just buy the damn thing if you're any sort of hip-hop fan

Danny Brown reflects on life and presents a masterpiece

*by J***M on October 10, 2013*

Danny Brown is a rapper in his thirties who recently got big. He is from the city of Detroit, where he was sheltered from the crime life by his parents at a early age, but he ended up becoming a drug dealer in his teen years. Danny Brown also dreamed of becoming a rapper and in the 2000s, he was going to New York all of the time to work on his material, but he didn't like any of the results that were coming out and he felt that he needed to push himself further. After running from the law for years, he spent eight months in prison, where he would spend his free time writing lyrics for songs he wanted to work on once he got out. He eventually got out, decided to combine rap with the sounds of the Rave scene of Detroit, and bam! The Danny Brown that we know of now was createdOld is a tale of Danny Brown finding who he is and the life that he wants to run away from. On Side A of the album, he talks about how people want "the old Danny Brown", but he doesn't want to be the "old Danny Brown", as that would mean that all of the work he has put into his musical career would go to waste and he would just end up being a drug dealer for the rest of his life. He also talks about how the drugs have gotten to him and he doesn't want to "Party All The Time" like he did in "XXX". Danny Brown realizes that partying is fun and all that, but that isn't how he wants to live his life and he has things he has to work for and represent.Side A of the album is just a top-notch hip-hop album, it's an album that you would had listen to with your friends back in the 1990s while cruising through your neighborhood. There are some catchy tunes here, but this isn't the side of the album that Danny wants people to party to, this is the side that you listen to and understand everything that Danny has gone through. It is raw and it is one of the rawest rap albums that has been put out in the last decade or so. Side B is a different story though, as this is the side of album that Danny throws EDM sounds and catchy hooks for people to hear and ironically, most of the singles come from this side of the album. Danny Brown still talks about how partying isn't the same to him anymore, but Side B is more of a party album, as it is something that is catchy and will have people jumping out of their seats as they dance and sing along with it.Danny Brown presents TWO (I consider each side to be a separate album) albums/sides that people can relate to and Danny brings some excellent features on here as well (A$AP Rocky, Schoolboy Q, Freddie Gibbs, and some other people) that just make this the perfect rap album. It doesn't matter if you're into more "laidback stuff" or "partying music", Danny presents a masterpiece that tells the rocky story of his life that people will appreciate for years to come.
