Informative, definitely written by a sleep doctor
I really enjoyed reading this book for two reasons:1. It gave an informative, concise pow-wow on how to get quality sleep as well how to identify various sleep disorders.2. It was clearly written by a professional.Even if it's stuff you've heard before like "don't use electronics before bed, no stimulants in the bedroom, etc." It's still good to heard them as repetitive reinforcement is generally more helpful than hearing something once. I also trust books better when they're written by an expert in the field rather than a writer who has only spent time learning the material enough to write about it. That being said, the good Doc gets repetitive to a fault. There are FAQs at the end of each section and every answer is pretty much the standard, doctor answer. "I suggest you see a sleep therapist," or, "You need good sleep hygiene, I suggest trying A,B, and C" A,B, and C are the same for every problem and you could probably skip FAQ.That being said, it earned a spot on my shelf. Definitely informative and interesting to all non-sleep specialists out there. If you want to learn how to get better sleep or whether you should see someone about your husband's snoring, I most definitely recommend this book!

in this book has provided lay people and healthcare providers an easy to reference and easy to read book regarding sleep ...
Dr Rosenberg, in this book has provided lay people and healthcare providers an easy to reference and easy to read book regarding sleep disorders. It is easy for lay people to grasp and healthcare providers to make sound decisions regarding the myriad of sleep disorders. As a healthcare provider familiar with much of what Dr Rosenberg writes about, I can appreciate the guidance he offers. The anecdotal examples are a real plus for all who read this book and essentially make it a a go- to source for lay people and professionals. One does not need to suffer with sleep disorders........buy the book....read the book and be on the way to: Sleep soundly every night - feel fantastic every day!

Yes for Students of Health -- No for Eveyone Else
Very well written, but the same information could easily be gleaned by using search engines regarding sleep. There is a good part of the book that is about specific syndromes and diseases that affect sleep. Therefore, if one is trying to study the role of sleep as it related to the greater human conditions -- say for healthcare students or professionals -- then I fully recommend this book. If this book is for your own personal understanding about your own personal challenges with sleep, the book isn't worth it; Get more info from your doctor(s) and from internet searches.

Info might be good, but tone is negative and off-putting
I did not read this whole book, but the few sections I did read through I found to have a kind of negative, almost reprimanding approach/tone. I thought this was odd, and not helpful to people who are already stressed or anxious about sleeping. Maybe it depends on the person, or what their specific problem is, but I had no desire to read the rest of the book, personally.I would HIGHLY recommend that instead you get the book THE INSOMNIA ANSWER by Glovinsky. It has a much more positive and engaging and healthy approach, and really saved me. I have an interest in sleep now after reading that book, which is why I bought Dr Rosenberg's book, too, because I figured it couldn't hurt to have more info since it had such good reviews, but I was not impressed. I'm sure the information itself is good, and that he is knowledgeable, but the tone was off-putting in certain parts.

Simply an amazing book!!
I bought this book due to my family history of sleep ailments. It was more then I could have hoped for. Dr. Rosenberg seems to cover it all in this reader friendly book. I bought this book thinking it was going to be another snore fest... but it was so refreshing and insightful. He really delves into the reasoning behind sleep deprivation and how to truly work through it. I would recommend this wonderful read to anyone who is battling sleep problems or if they know someone who is. A+ on this fantastic book. Also it is very affordable and a perfect sized paperback to take anywhere.

Saved my life.
I have bipolar disorder and the sleep lessons in this book probably saved my life. I bought it over four years ago and I've slept so well ever since. My main tip is to heed the advice to not check your clock at night; you get the amount of sleep that you get, and you can't "will" yourself to sleep.Goodnight!

Well balanced book...must read for anyone looking to learn about sleep disorders.
This is a well balanced and informative discussion on the many types and many root causes of sleep disorders. It wasn't until I read this book that I learned just how many different types of sleep conditions exist.. The book does an exemplary job of interleaving anecdotes of case histories with lab evidence in a manner that is understandable to us non-doctors. This book is a must read for anyone looking to learn more about sleep disorders for either themselves or that of a loved one.

Expert advice
I read this book when I was having problems sleeping for few months and couldn’t find the solution to the problem. Having seen doctors in the past and not wanting to go on medication again; I wanted to find a solution in a natural way. I thought sleeping was mostly common sense and thought I knew most of the healthy habits, but the author definitely has a way more in depth knowledge than any doctor I have ever seen. There are lots of useful tips and tricks to getting a better nights sleep. The ‘sleep restriction’ method was definitely contrary to my beliefs on what I thought you needed to do and I found it to be quite effective.

Condescending style, and not helpful for me
I read about 4 chapters. I found it hard to read. The author is condescending, as is common with many medical doctors. Often he discusses details about one individual patient or another, none of which are my issues. And in each case I am left with questions; I didn't get a thorough enough treatment to be satisfied. I wish the author just listed symptoms, and suggested solutions, for common problems in an easy-to-reference style. The book would be alot shorter that way, and more to the point. This one has found its way to the bookshelf, likely never to be consulted again. I am still looking for a good book about sleeping better.
