Here's the Crescent City piano master in Baton Rouge and Memphis in '71 and '72, joining forces with Snooks Eaglin and hootin' and hollerin' over some of the most joyous, rollicking piano you're ever gonna hear! Includes Tipitina; Cherry Pie; Big Chief; 501 Boogie; Hey Little Girl; "G" Jam; Gone So Long , and more.

I love Professor Longhair
I love Professor Longhair, and I like the music on this CD, but the quality is, I think, choppy. Not as good as "Rock n Roll Gumbo." That is why I did not give it a 5. On the other hand, there are some really interesting, older, versions of his songs that make the album worthwhile. That's why I give it a four star.

An R&B Gem
I had this one in vinyl years ago. Some great vintage Fess with Snooks Eaglin on the guitar. Cabbage Head, a humerous New Orleans version of the old Irish tune The Seven Drunken Nights stands out along with a groovy version of Junko Partner. This recording brings back memories of nights at Tipitina's back when it was a funky little corner bar with beat old couches to sit on while the Professor rattled the 88s onstage. If your into Longhair's stuff you'll like this album.

Love it!
Prof Longhair is a new favorite of mine! Love his style. Wish I'd found him years ago! His style is his own, and the piano is mesmerizing.

A comparison to his other works
This is project was recorded well after his Mercury and Atlantic sessions. (said by many to be the definitive Fess)Yet to be published are his works on Ron an obscur label from the 60s. Those 45s are hot if you can find them. This work is leading up to Crawfish Fiesta (his last work) This one is by far his most energetic work from this era. It makes Crawfish sound a little stiff in comparison. The band is loose and the drummer is insane. For a good Fess session it's all about who is on drums. This one tops the second disc on the Rhino collection which sounds like an afterthought. And this is way more energetic than the stiff british audience on the Queen Mary disc.

Stands the Test of Time
I keep coming back to this album, which I taped onto a not-very-good cassette over twenty years ago. I am not a big New Orleans music fan or anything--love lots of blues and jazz though, among other things. This album is pleasing and makes me smile every time. This album is worth buying. It will not lose appeal over time but get stronger.
