Nazi Women: The Attraction of Evil

Don't waste your money!
This is among the worst books I have read about Nazi Germany. I hardly know where to start. Much of the first part of the book is a inane quasi-Freudian analysis, not of Nazi women, but of Hitler himself. This theme pops up so frequently in regard to other Nazi leaders, as well as to individual German women, that I had to double-check the publication date. Even if his analyses had been well-done, they would be decades out of date. The "portraits" of Nazi women, which are somewhat rambling and chronologically confused, are for the most part confined to a paragraph or so, and usually presented in terms of the men around them. I was disappointed that there were no in-depth presentations, and no coherent attempt at analyzing or explaining his subject. Finally, there are innumerable instances of factually incorrect and/or illogical information, repetition, and such awkward writing that one has to work hard to twist out the meaning.Had this book been written by a high school student, I wouldn't be surprised.

They WERE Guilty
Author Roland collects the evidence, witnesses and testimonies of German women who served in various positions in the Nazi stateAll are named, with bios, photos, and meticulously researched and patently damning evidence. All were guilty, but in widely varying degrees - from willfully ignorant secretaries to psychopathic death camp killers. Very few were prosecuted, many thousands allowed to disappear safely into post war obscurity. This book shreds the myth that German women were themselves "unwitting" victims of the Nazi horror. A very enlightening read. Highly recommended.

It was not only the men...
Not all German women fell in with the Nazisduring the Hitler years, but many did. They were attracted to the violence and the power.Nazi Women: The Attraction of Evil, is a case study ofsome of the women who wanted to be part of somethingmany didn't fully see, and about some who knew exactly whatthey were seeing. The reader is taken into the inner circle of some of the Nazihigher ranking officials, and into their mindset. If you are a history enthusiast, you will enjoy reading about thistime of turmoil from a different perspective.

Nazi women
It is a good book, if you want to learn about what was going on during that period of time. But all guards should have been executed.

Well written and thoroughly researched. The book kept me engaged throughout
I liked a well written thoroughly researched book that was interesting and kept me engaged throughout the book. As much as some in Germany tried to under the evils throughout the length of the regime of the Third Reich, they were not guiltless

Always wondered how and why women of Nazi Germany did what they did and this book gives a lot of detail. The women of Hitler's inner circle are and interesting lot.

Very interesting. Good read.
Very interesting to read another perspective of the Nazi regime. I didn't realise the extent of evil that existed among the German women folk of the time. I felt the descriptions of what these women did for the love of the Reich, despite being sometimes gruesome were described in a very factual way. Personally, I couldn't put it down. I did enjoy this book. However, enjoyed maybe the wrong word, as I gain no pleasure from reading about these atrocities. I feel sympathy for the victims and no sorrow for the perpetrators. I am interested in all aspects of military history, particularly WW2 having family members who served/lived through it. So I think it's good that authors such as Paul Roland can bring these other aspects of war, i.e.how the Third Reich indoctrinated the wives, girlfriends, etc into their war effort. This book helps build a fuller picture of what was happening in Germany during WW2. Happy to recommend. I gave 4/5 starts simply because I prefer a physical book!

Chilling but vital to read
It is over 80 year since the nazi party's reign of terror over Germany and then much of Europe. We must continue to learn what they did and how a nation was encouraged to complicit if not actively supportive. This book is a part of that. A chilling read but vital nonetheless.

Good starting point
This is a good survey of women's roles in the Nazi regime. There are occasions when I think he could be more critical of his sources on, quoting as fact statements that have been questioned elsewhere ( Hitler had only one ball ??).But he paints an accurate and fairly wide ranging picture of the attitudes and actions of women under Hitler and their various roles as heros and villains. A newcomers guide, if you like and a starting point for further research .

What an excellent book
I began reading this book and got totally engrossed. I have always been interested in military history especially WW2 and have served in UK armed forces but didn't realise that women took part in the war crimes committed at the concentration camps. How could they be so heartless and cruel.

Couldn't put it down
A very interesting & somewhat shocking read. A good insight into what life was like for German women during the war & the roll they played helping the Nazis get into power. Stories of the female camp gards which as shocking to say the least. Not all horror stories either, also stories of those who tried to help.

A good insight into the hearts & minds of the people ...
A good insight into the hearts & minds of the people who supported Hitler & put him in power. I don't believe the Nazi regime made these individuals evil they were already that when they took up their positions within the 3rd Reich. An enjoyable read

There's Nothing New under The Sun?
Perverted by constant repetition wrapped into a plasticised reality peddling subliminally applied propaganda. This book opened the minds eye to a phenomenon well worth examining that manifested itself in Nazi Germany during the last century.

About time
Too much time has often been devoted to the so called innocent Germans during the war, especially the women. Accounts in this book now show of the complicit support and participation of a good many women in the Reich.

Fascinating!
Well written and researched, an eye opener to the female personality when it comes to sadism. Highly recommend to anyone interested in the events of the Second World War.
