Love the FLEA!
I had been playing on a borrowed FLEA but wanted my own ukulele so I bought a different one from Another Reputable Maker, but the intonation was really off on that one. I gave it some time for the strings to stretch, played it a lot, but I think it's just not fixable. When I had both and played them side by side, I could really tell that the FLEA was superior to The Other One: the intonation was spot on, the sound was brighter and zingier, and had great resonance. I ended up returning That Other One and bought myself my own FLEA, the pretty red one! Just received it and I feel affirmed in its superior quality. It's so well made and pretty, and it sounds so good. More extras: the gig bag that came with it was nicer than what was indicated on the product page, plus the maker included many helpful things such as a chord chart, a tuner, and a very nice letter, all packed with obvious care! Loved the whole experience. Thanks, Magic Fluke, for making such a great little instrument, and taking good care of your customers!

Glad I pulled the Flea trigger!
The red Flea that came out of the shipping package couldn't have been set up and shipped any better (It came from True Joy through Amazon.). It even came with good strings, so I didn't even have to re-string it. It is a mite louder than my Kiwaya KS-OP pineapple, and it sounds great! The KS-OP is a fine uke, but the Flea is right up there with it, and, being concert size, is easier for my fat fingers to play, as well (My fat head doesn't help, either...). The build, fit and finish, and the cosmetics are first-rate, and the intonation and action are perfect. I have no reservations about good non-wood instruments: I play Rainsong guitars (graphite), and a Deering Boston banjo (Steel pot), and they are excellent for performing. The Flea fits right in to my corral. The included gig bag fits nicely, and it should be fine for "out and about". I am glad I flopped for the Flea!

Good Quality Instrument, Impeccable Service
Very good deal, in support of a musical therapy program at a children's hospital. I don't want to repeat what's already been mentioned in other reviews so I'll try to add some new information. I've had this instrument for about 6 weeks. This is my take: the Flea Ukulele is a useful starter uke for folks who want something that's low maintenance. It has reliable playability because it's uniformly manufactured. It also is hassle-free because unlike a solid-wood instrument, you don't need to be as concerned with humidity and environmental issues. Being able to stand it up is convenient; makes it easier to take breaks while you're practicing and then return to it.According to my friends who are experienced musicians, you generally want to buy guitars/ukuleles that are wooden from a reputable dealer who will perform the set-up, i.e., make sure the instrument has all of the necessary adjustments to make it playable rather than going with the least expensive option on Amazon. With the Flea, however, that isn't necessary, because it plays fine right out of the box.I've ordered a lot of things from Amazon over the years, and I have to say that I have never received a more thoughtfully and meticulously packaged product. Greg at True Joy Acoustics really delivers a quality instrument with excellent service. For example, the packaging has a note on the box to the delivery service that if the package is damaged it should be redirected to the sender for a claim. And all of the stickers lined up too! :)The package came with everything that I needed, including a bag and a clip-on tuner. As a complete novice at the ukulele (and an occasional guitar player), at first I thought the strings were in the wrong order as I was used to the strings going from thickest to thinnest. The two fatter strings are supposed to be in the middle, however, so don't start rearranging them! :)My only caveat about the Flea is that the top edge (along the front) protrudes from the soundboard (that would be the red part!), so when you are holding it with your right forearm, it creates a red crease on your skin which can be irritating (though it matches the ukulele). I cut the top off of an old sock and slip it on my arm before I play and it seems to work well.If you can afford to spend $200 to buy a ukulele, it's worthwhile to have something that is easier to learn on and stays in tune better than an inexpensive instrument. If you don't have the budget for it, maybe consider saving up the money over time rather than buying a $30-$50 one. I would definitely recommend ordering from True Joy Acoustics. You can support a good cause and finally learn to play a musical instrument. It's a lot of fun and there are always new techniques and songs to learn. It's a very versatile, portable, and playable instrument.

Great little instrument
This is a wonderful and stylish ukulele (I got one with the red finish) that is well designed and easy to play right out of the box. When you are just starting to learn a ukulele (like me), it is important to have an instrument that is well set-up; otherwise, it can be frustrating to play and discouraging to the beginner. The Flea is a nice starter uke, and made in the U.S.A. The shape is interesting---people keep asking me, "Where did you get that?", and they won't mistake this one for a small guitar, as they might for some other ukuleles. This one came with a soft carrying bag and was strung with Aquila strings (better than generic starter strings). The seller I bought it from (True Joy Acoustics) was friendly and provided prompt delivery. It is also durable---note that the base of the Flea is fiberglass, not wood, and it can hold up pretty well against shock. For a starter instrument, you probably don't want to invest in an expensive solid-wood instrument and then accidentally drop it or find that your child has banged it up on the stairway. (I'm expecting a child soon, so child-proofing is an important consideration until the day when I can teach the little one to play guitar/ukulele!) I am happy with my purchase and would recommend it to others. Keep on playing!

Great uke, with a bonus
Comfortable neck, full sound, stays in tune, well made. And you can't beat the great flat bottom when you are teaching/playing and need to set it down. This uke also got rave reviews from my entire family, many of whom are professional musicians. I took it to a recent gathering and it was a great addition to the percussion, various guitars, etc.The bonus? The manufacturer donates FLEA ukes to children's hospitals. The more we purchase, the more he can give.
