Pro Co Lil' RAT Distortion/Fuzz/Overdrive Pedal

A few years back I was deliberating whether I should get the original Rat, but it was way too heavy and big for my liking so I passed on it. But I recently got a Behringer TD-3 and I was looking for a distortion pedal that would be a good match for it. TD-3 is a Roland TB-303 clone which historically (80s/90s) was paired with the Rat for acid house music so I started taking interest in the Rat again. This time I researched to see if there's a smaller version of it and low and behold I came across the Lil' Rat and was happy to see it shared the same circuits as the original Rat. What I like about the Rat is that it distorts bass sounds really well. It gives them a deep angry rumble that other distortion pedals just don't do as well. My only concern when getting the pedal was the three pretzel stick knobs. But now that I've used them they feel pretty sturdy and have plenty of room for the fingers to twist so I can't complain. All in all, amazing pedal and the Lil' Rat and I are gonna be jammin.

If you're unfamliar with the Pro-Co Rat pedal, I suggest you do Google and YouTube research. I had the Rat 2 in the 90's, and most like us all, pawned it and never seen it again. I've moved on to TS808 since then, but when I saw a mini version I knew I had to get one. I believe the "RAT" sound is a 'one of a kind' and pairs well with tube amps. And in my opinion, if you like David Gilmour's '80s lead tone, buy it!

There is such a thing as being “too small”. It’s hard to explain. For most pedal boards it will work just fine, but my pedal board has 2 1/2” gaps for cable routing, which means the lil Rat has 1/4” surface area for mounting on either end of the pedal. This is manageable, but it also means that the footswitch itself isn’t exactly even with my other foot switches, which causes my foot to accidentally hit other nearby pedals. I could just space them out even more, but then what’s the point of having a mini pedal. If it were just one inch longer (like most mini pedals) it would be fine. Hope this made sense. Anyway, I returned it and got the big version, which was actually cheaper, haha!

I have no complaints about this! If you want the classic RAT sound and look in a tiny package this delivers the exact tone of other RAT models without any compromise. The only complaint I have are that the knobs aren't the best, but honestly they're not bad either and likely won't effect you at all except visually. They REALLY should have the indicators painted. This pedal is easy to recommend for all different kinds of genre of rock, metal, and alternative music. Pairs well with Aquanet.

I decided to upgrade from a cheaper distortion pedal (online reviews said it was comparable to a Rat) to a real Rat and I was blown away by the difference. Based on my experience, where the Rat separates from cheaper examples is on lower gain settings. You can turn it down for a tube screamer/light overdrive kind of sound or turn it up heavier distortion tones. It's very versatile and sounds great. And the mini size fits great on my pedal board. Wish I'd just bought the real deal in the first place.

Just what I was looking for in a tiny package. It is going to knock a couple other distortion pedals from my board!! Tone is distinct yet versatile. Cuts through great!

This sounds unreal and takes up very little space on my pedalboard.

メインの歪みとして使えるかなと思い購入しました。確かに使えるディストーションなんですが、個人的に歪みをギリギリまで下げたクリーンサウンドがとても気に入ったので、その枠でボードに組み込んでます。初めてのRAT(lil'RAT)ですが、昔から生き残っている理由が分かりました。

色々なディストーションオーバードライブ使ったがこれが一番！また小さいのが良い！

現行型のRAT2を使ってたが、ボードに組むとかなり邪魔者でした。届いて早速音出ししましたが、音はRAT2とほぼ変わりないと思います。ノイズが現行型より少なく感じました。歪み方は現行型の方がハイゲインで、リルラットは思ってたより歪まないです。自分はリルラットの方が断然扱いやすいし、ボードのスペースも出来たので、もう少しスマートに組めると思います。
