Amazingly quiet!
My son is learning trumpet, and everyone in my household was complaining about how loud it was. I finally got him this and I can barely hear him play.

Sounds like a straight mute, never falls out of the bell unlike some I've used in the past, and was the right price.

Not too quiet.
I bought this thinking it would be quiet enough for me to be able to practice at home around family, but it was still pretty loud and didn't quite muffle the sound. The only reason I didn't rate this lower is because I know some mutes are to be used while playing, so I can only assume that it is designed to be used while playing, but the adjustable cup works good and other than a misunderstanding in use, largely because of other reviews, I'd say it would be a pretty good mute.

Good sound
I needed a cup mute for a piece that calls for it. It has a nice sound. Also it's good to practice with to control air flow. The strange thing is it said designed in California, made in China. The guy who sits next to me thought that was interesting.
