Above average technical knowledge required for setup
I am using the NanoStation M2 to bring WiFi into a building about 150 meters from the main WiFi router through forest. It's designed to be mounted outside, by is working well mounted in a window with a direct view of the other building. The output is plugged into a local router that supplies WiFi and wired access to the internet. All the signal strength lights are illuminated which means that the unit would probably work well at a much greater distance. The unit is designed for a variety of applications, and therefore offers a variety of setup options. This unit is replacing a simple repeater that was struck by lightning. Setup on that unit was very simple. You just had to temporarily plug in a computer and select the WiFi service and set up a name and password for the local service. The NanoStation proved to be a bit of a challenge. The instruction that came with the unit were useless. There are a lot of YouTube videos available, lots of chat groups and several how to guides. I found one that seemed to provide detailed instructions with images of what you should be switching on and off on your screen. My screens only vaguely corresponded with the illustrations - some boxes weren't there, and there were others that weren't mentioned. Eventually, after five frustrating days, a lot of searching on the internet, odd messages that this or that was or wasn't enabled, I got the unit working. I opted for the mobile setup - recommended for RVs and boats. Although this is a fixed installation, I would hate to have to start from the beginning again if there was a major failure at the main router. The mobile setup only requires the last steps, similar to my old unit.
