PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE BUYING!! - Updated 04/17/17
If I could do zero stars I would. If you are considering please read this. And first of all, I have been working with computers and networks and hardware my whole life so I know a thing or two. Just about every piece of electronics in my house (frig, stove, security system, printers, etc.) are hooked up to my WI FI network with ZERO issues, just in case anyone wants to chalk my review up to an uneducated user. I originally got the Petcube and quickly returned because of the poor camera resolution and low visibility. I got the Petcube Play last week. Right out of the box could not connect. Tried to upgrade firmware as per the instructions of the manufacturer but unfortunately the little reset button on the underside of the camera was not functional. Without the upgrade unit was worthless. Was going to send it back to Amazon and be done with this brand but the manufacturer convinced me to send it to them and they would overnight me a new unit. So I agreed. Got the new unit Thursday and it connected and set up immediately. I was so overjoyed. This is not a toy for me. I have a dog having seizures that I have to monitor so that the vet can determine what is going on and how serious it is. Unit worked flawlessly for about 4 hours. Went out to dinner and tested it fully. Camera worked as expected but the dogs could not hear us through the 2 way. Got home and reset it and then 2 way worked. A couple other fluky things happened throughout the night, the notifications changed from a dog barking to a vibration (no big deal), the 2 way worked intermittently throughout the night, and there's at least a 5 minute delay from the time the camera senses motion or sound before you are notified. No big deal right? Unless you are using the monitor like me to track potentially deadly seizures with your dog. Back and forth with manufacturer again (they all know me by name on the toll free number NO JOKE and I have spoken to EVERY one) and assured that the latest firmware will magically solve all these issues. They were going to push the software to the unit. Go to work yesterday, everything working fine. Do a few checks in the morning and all good. Around 9am yesterday unit goes off line never to return. My Wi Fi is working fine because everything else in my house connected to it is working as expected. Get home at 4pm and NO POWER to the Petcube, dead as a door knob. Unplug it and plug back in and YUP working fine. Call manufacturer and what do you think they said? I must have had a power outage, even though NOTHING else in my house was affected. If you own a home you know even with battery backups, etc. if you have a power outage you lose the time on your microwave, some phones, stove, etc. I always know when we have a power outage even for 15 seconds because my microwave has no backup and has to be reset EVERY time. Not yesterday. So after presenting that fact to the manufacturer the response was âwell sometimes this can happen, if it happens again weâll send you a new power cordâ. Latest and greatest software is finally installed on the unit yesterday after I plugged it back in and the notifications are back to the dog barking sound, the 2 way is working religiously but the delay in the sound and motion detection notifications remain the same. I decide I can work around that and decide to keep the unit and move forward. Wake up this morning (the Petcube is in the kitchen so it had no reason to do anything all night while we were sleeping) and the white light is blinking constantly, which means itâs recording? Recording what? Itâs an empty room, dead silent, dead dark, no activity. And three hours later it is doing the same thing. And I try to connect to it and GUESS WHAT off line!!!! Not even going to waste another minute with this thing. Itâs a shame because this is an awesome product (concept) and I love being able to see other pictures from other users, and I love that itâs for PETS. But thatâs about it. If you are buying this for a toy that you do not need to work more than half the time, then by all means, spend the money. As a side note, I must say that the customer service reps are phenomenal. They really TRY to accommodate and solve your problems. Unfortunately they are fighting a losing battle because obviously they are working with developers that do not care that they are selling a product that isnât ready for the market. Iâve asked the manufacturer to send me a real WORKING unit when they have one. If they do and these issues are worked out, I will certainly update my review.UPDATE:After working with the manufacturer directly and being sent another unit, I can gladly say that now the camera has been working consistently and reliably for almost two weeks now. I have had no dropped connections, the notifications have drastically improved and I have not had a single problem with anything. I've suggested a few improvements that the manufacturer seems to be receptive to so we'll see. I still think going forward this manufacturer needs to put more of their new "beta" products out there in the "real world" so users like me that are using something like this for a specific reason other than interacting with their pets can help them successfully iron out the problems before hitting the market. If I had bought this camera to occasionally check in on my dogs I might have just "dealt" with some of the problems.

Needs more work
This keeps coming down in price for a reason.... set up was easy enough, but no troubleshooting guide. Had a few issues and had to go to support for help. I used chat and it was an excessive wait to connect and at least 5-10 minutes to get answers to my questions. I really wanted this for the laser feature which I still can't get to work properly, terrible lag, if it's responding at all. I had asked about this during the chat session and they flat out stopped responding to me. After 26 minutes I gave up. I understand issues might come up with products, but without support the product becomes an expensive paperweight. This will be going back.

giving my lazy cats a workout and great for sharing your pets with family!
This is such a great camera for watching your pet if you want a simple user friendly camera made for exactly that reason! I ordered the rose gold and it is a really nice finish while still looking cute! I really love that this is something that not only works well, but is designed to look very sleek and fancy on your shelf. I do wish they had a high gloss white option, but the rose was a really nice surprise!Setup is 10/10 very very easy to do, they really did a good job making it very painless which I appreciate. I have some home security cameras with app features and I wish they were as quick to set up as the petcube.I have 3 cats so I put this in my living room where they like to hang around so that if my friends peep in on my cube they can always spot a cat to give them a little exercise! The audio feature must be very useful for dogs, for cats it freaked them out a little but I think when I go away on vacation next time they will be a little happier to hear my voice! I also helped my mother get the app on her phone and she was thrilled to be able to pop in and talk to my cats or play with them a little.Camera quality is pretty good, although in low light it is lacking. Best for daytime spying!
