Condition of item
Helmet is a model 1940 Russian. It is in new condition and perfect. Size is a 59 medium or a number 2 size historically. Great addition to any military collection and is a must for a WW2 collector to have.

Genuine
Very nice quality, genuine helmet from the early to mid 50's. The liner is very dry and cracking due to age, and overall has a musty smell, but otherwise no rusting and a piece of history. This is the same style helmet that was worn at the end of WWII, so it's good for collector's or a display.

Received an SSh-68
I read a few of the other reviews and some of them stated they received the wrong model. I would have been fine with receiving any model of Russian helmet so I went ahead and bought it. No surprised to me I received an SSh-68 helmet instead of an SSh-40. My advice is if you are fine with receiving any sort of Russian helmet then go ahead and buy this. But if you specifically want an SSh-40 then don’t take the gamble and look elsewhere. I am going to knock one star off the review because it claimed it to be an SSh-40, but other than that I knew what I was getting into, and I was fine with it. The helmet is in remarkable condition, and I am not disappointed one bit.

Great Post War Production of the WWII Helmet
The helmet I received was a SSh-40 made in 1956, in the size marked P-1. It was still wrapped in its storage paper and is in excellent shape inside and outside with just a few minor scuffs on the outside. It is the 3 pad liner model that was a little stiff after sitting around for 64 years but I was able to soften up the pads with some armorall. I wear a 7 1/2 hat so this helmet was tight on my head until I removed some of the cotton padding from each pad. You just have to untie the center lace, then you can lift up the pad and stick your finger down where the pad and helmet meet and then can remove some of the cotton padding that is tucked into the helmet pad pocket to reduce its size. I took the cotton padding out of all three helmet pads and now can wear the helmet with more comfort. Spasiba

Nice Helmet!
A very nice helmet indeed, shipped quickly and arrived almost a month before expected. The helmet was in very good condition, presumably because it was in storage up until now. Mine fits nicely on my head, although I mostly intend to use it for display. Overall, a great purchase!

Got exactly what we wanted.
Item is exactly as described. My son was ecstatic. Very impressive that it actually comes from Ukraine.

I received an ssh-60, not an ssh-40
The helmet I received was an ssh-60 helmet which, while very similar to to the ssh-40, has a number of key differences that distinguish it from the latter such as:-a leather chinstrap instead of canvas-a four pad liner instead of a three pad liner-rivets in different placesWhile this may not be a big deal to some, for those of us looking for acceptable reenactment gear, the ssh-60 is out of the question and is usually inadmissible by reenactment groups as anyone there can easily tell the difference. For those of you still interested in the helmet, it was in fairly good condition, but did have several patches of rust and the smell of moldy dirt would not leave it no matter how hard I tried to cleanse the helmet.

Helmet Isn't a 40
a SSh-40 has three triangle looking flaps inside, mine has 4 (it's a 60/68). The rivet pattern is slightly different. The picture shows the three point chin strap, the one I recieved was a 2 point. Thankfully I'm not being judged for my helmets "period correctness" but the 40 is a WWII or "right after", while the helmet I got was a "modern-ish" helmet.
