It sucks, which is good...
...by which I mean I used this spray on myself to test it out and understand what it feels like. If you can do so under safe conditions with proper medical supervision I highly recommend doing so. It really sucks, and will force your eyes shut and make it hard to breath, which is why the supervision of a medical professional is necessary, but it's valuable to know the weapons you might need to use in an emergency as intimately as you can. Unpleasant as it is, this spray is not as strong as a chemical irritant intended for use on people (I've been sprayed with one of those too) because it doesn't have to be: animals are very unlikely to fight through the discomfort to accomplish a goal they like a human might. And this spray is less potent by design, because if you deploy the stuff in an animal attack, when you're likely to be moving and don't have time to check the direction the wind is blowing, it's very possible some of it could splash back on you, or on your own dog. If that happens, you'll still have the advantage--assuming you also hit your target--because you wouldn't be so disabled that you couldn't move away from the attacking animal, nor would you own dog suffer any serious injury. On the other hand, this spray shouldn't be considered a substitute for a self-defense spray intended to be used against a human for the opposite reason: it isn't likely to stop a determined human attacker. Obviously, there are plenty of chem weapons on the market for that scenario, but if aggressive dogs with irresponsible owners are the threat you're most likely to encounter, this is hands down the best self-defense weapon to carry. And even if you don't test it on yourself, buy two cans so you can use one to practice quickly grabbing it, pressing the button, and hitting a target several feet away. You don't want your first time using it to be when some dog is trying to gut you like a stuffed squeaky toy.

Keeps us safe
I carry this spray on the side pouch of my purse when walking my labradoodle because we have dogs run at us off leash several times a month. Today we were walking through a neighborhood because we were trying to avoid a dog running loose at the park. As luck should have it, 2 pit bulls ran out of their house away from their owner who made little attempt to stop them. They ran across the street, almost getting hit by a car to confront my dog and I. I was able to spray one while it was several feet away, making it retreat. I sprayed the second one just as it was nose to nose with my dog. It retreated as well. We didn't stick around to find out what happened next. My advice is to carry this spray, use it and don't talk to the owner/s if possible, it will probably just escalate the situation. They already showed what type of people they are by letting their dogs run off leash.

Afraid to use
I'm sure it must be a good product but I'm afraid to carry it or use it. Guess I need to practice spraying it so I feel more comfortable that I know what I'm doing if this horrible time comes under stress. I will give an update.

My eyes! My eyes!
I don’t use this on people, rather on the occasional aggressive dog on the bike path. I guess that pitbull someone is using to guard their RV full of garbage isn’t the friendly beast his owners believe. A quick sweeping spray and the attack stopped. This isn’t bear spray but a single stream. A slight sweeping motion put enough in the air that the dog was deterred. Hated to use it but if people refuse to control their aggressive animals you have to do something.

To control dog's
I haven't had a reason again to protect my dog and I from any aggressive animals yet. It's like having a fire extinguisher handy.

I feel safe
I am a widowed senior. My dog Bonnie is a 35 pound beagle rescue, I live in an apartment where dogs of all sizes are allowed. I have never had to use Halt but its there if I need it. I would add its very strong. Additionally I don't believe I would spray it in a dogs face. The consistency is thick, I would spray it on the ground in front of the dog. I wouldn't want get any on my dog.

best dog repellent on the market
I have used this repellent for over 40 years. I once had to use it on a trained German Shepherd attack dog that attacked me for no reason. It literally saved my life. I have used several different brands. One brand the spray cap fell off and another brand the spray had no effect on the dogs. I have used it on about four dogs. I try my best to avoid situations where dogs are present. This is the best brand by far in my opinion.
