Old Masters 12416 Oil Based Wiping Stain, 1/2 Pint, Pickling White

This is one of my favorite colors! I love the rich brown color of this stain. This is a thicker masking stain meaning it stays more on top of the wood instead of penetrating down into the wood! This is one of my go to stains!

I had a piece of maple wood that was in really bad condition--holes, stains, etc. After preparing the surface, the best I'd hoped for was "something not hideous" that could serve as my workstation desktop in a room that had a lot of cherry finishes (that's why I used cherry stain over maple wood). The stain was easy to work with (typical heavy chemical odor, though), and thick enough that I didn't have to worry too much about it running off my work area. I manipulated the density to disguise some of the wood's imperfections. My work was pretty sloppy because I had minimal expectations. The surface came out beautiful. I'm thrilled with the richness of the color and the ease of use. Now that it's dry (typical half-day drying time, depending on the application thickness), a little fine steel wool rubdown was all that was needed for a smooth surface.

First time with Old Masters products. Worked great.

I used this on our wood frame windows and casings made of pine, and this stain produced a nice even color with minimal blotching. A remarkable result on pine. For some reason I can't find it in my area, so I had to order it, but it arrived quickly and safely packaged. Sealed in plastic with the lid securely taped.

This stain did a good job of coverage and was easy to use. Also, like the it comes in small quantities. Unless you are doing a big job, the excess can dry up and be wasted.

Uneven results on SYP, blotchy, including after I sanded to 220 grit, not even recommended by manufacturer. The next batch, bought at Paint Supply, had a different consistency, looked 'gel-oilier', applied perfectly. That makes more sense, given everyone praises this product.

The product applied smoothly to the door. The stain is much darker then expected. It took one coat to complete the door.

The stain was exactly as described and beautiful.
