i have a 60lb chow mix with super hard nails that bend most clippers. they would splinter his nails terribly, and he hated the noise they make when clipping. i tried the dremel pet nail tool, as well. it took so long to grind his nails it would run out of power before we were even half done, and he hated it too, so we just had to hold him down for longer and give him more treats. i finally decided to try these, and they work really well. they don't make noise that scares him, they are sharp, so they cut quickly and cleanly--little to no splintering. we still have to hold him down (no easy task) and give him treats to distract him, but it doesn't take long at all to get the job done (thank goodness). i also have a jack russell/chi mix and i do her MUCH smaller nails with these as well now. this is a great set of clippers!

I was afraid to cut my dogs nails but this thing works great. I like that it cuts in from the sides and not back/front like others. That seems to equalize the pressure on the nail better. Thank goodness my dog has a high pain threshold though; I have gotten the quick a couple of times (which is why I hate doing this) and she just flinches a bit. Good quality product though; nice and sharp.

I don't know how long these things should last for, but I don't remember buying them this frequently. The little thing to keep it closed broke early on. Ruining many pockets. Then the whole thing just shattered. It yeeted its shattered parts into another dimension, and, I'm certain I'll only find them on a doggie tummy xray.

Great clippers. I have used these for years after I asked our vet which nail clippers they used.

Whether there is the center screw which is too tight, some blade imperfections that create additional friction, or the spring is too weak, these pliers would not re-open fully when let go. As a result, the gap is left too small for next nail to go in, yet the nail clipping time is too precious to waste it for pulling them apart... My breeder did not recommend these clippers (and now I know why) in their larger variant (7in), but only the puppy size (5in) -- which worked just perfectly, and which was why I decided I needed a bigger version now that my pup has grown. Wrong decision! 5 stars to Amazon for taking them back!

Our elderly GSD has very tough nails and has had some trouble walking due to the overgrowth. He seems to think we are trying to cut off his legs when we try to trim the nails, so we are still working on getting him to accept this. At least we have a fighting chance now with the right size clipper.

It pays to pay more to assure good quality. I am a retired dog groomer and I can tell you these are great nail clippers - you can use them on small dogs and cats, too. Just be sure you know where the quick is because these do not have the guard that helps you not to cut too short,

I have a 100 pound dog with claws like a bear. These clippers are perfect. Easy to grip and work with a minimum of force. I highly recommend this tool.
