Q: Is the 3 Oz bar enough for 1 field jacket?

No, not for me anyway. I wear a XXLT. And I needed 3 bars to properly wax my field jacket. And I still may add one more coat before winter really hits. However, the bars work like a charm. Be sure to rub it in with your fingers. And use a hairdryer to really get the wax to soak in. Hope this helped?

Q: Can this go rancid, either from the beeswax or, more likely, from the “seed oils”? That’s always a concern with non-synthetic oils.

Q: Anyone know if this makes it harder to clean dirt off? I'm wondering if i could use this on white shoes, or if dirt would get stuck to the wax.

I bought this product to treat a canvas tent. Their is a video about the application. To be honest I've not begun the project with my tent. As for your shoes, I think if they are canvas, you'll be good to go. Watch the video on the products amazon page. Their is a blow dryer involved.

Q: Can I add brown color pigment or rite powder dye to make it dark color

Yes you could melt it down and add a color. If you are going to go through the hassle of melting it down why not make your own using equal parts beeswax, paraffin wax and boiled linseed oil or Tung oil. Much less expensive if you buy 1LB of each wax and 16 ounces of linseed or Tung oil. If you want whatever you plan on waxing to be insect resistant add 2 oz of pure Peppermint oil to the mixture.
