Simple NAS for Windows and Linux after some setup.
Works well with Windows using a 2.5gbs Ethernet port on my network out of the box. However, on Linux it took a bit of work to work properly, I had to create a file with the password and user id in it and add this to an SMB share to avoid having to enter the password and user id every time you click on the drive or its shares. After having completed this it now works well also in Linux

DO NOT BUY no wait...do buy!
I bought this unit expecting to see 16TB to my horror it is only 8 gb. So forget everything i said, i am an idiot. I was looking at what was used not how much space was left....not my best moment. I had to call support as the nas navigator no longer works and i had to do some config changes to allow me to view my drive on my network....so far so good

Great drive but customer support is non existent. You are on your own.
Bought this drive (8tb) to back up my work computers from one building to another via CAT5 cable. At first Timemachine ran great. Until I realized it was taking 5 days to complete the first back up. FIVE DAYS!! After reading all the documentation, checking the Buffalo forums (nobody EVER replies to the countless Mac users having the same issue) I FINALLY found a solution on a third party forum. Drive has to be set up using AFP instead of SMB. You would think since they bill this drive as Mac/Time Machine capable they would address that. Especially since every review I've read of this drive by a Mac user basically complains about painful slow backups. Yeah, I'm sure if you are tech savvy the that maybe you would know to do this but the drive is billed as being easy to set up out of the box. Just a LITTLE mention in set up would solve this problem.

One died after a day, the second dropped from the network in 3 days
I bought a LinkStation 720 from Amazon to replace an older Western Digital Cloud Server. I am an experienced network administrator, and have a sophisticated 1GB network environment based on Cat6e in my home, with dual WAN's from AT&T and Spectrum sharing the load among a dozen or so devices. The Western Digital drive had been reliable, not failing for years, but WD decided to stop software support for the drive, meaning I no longer would be able to access my drive remotely through WD servers, so I needed to replace it. I bought the first LinkStation 720 about 2 weeks ago as that replacement. It installed as it should, and appeared to be working. However, during the first evening, the drive died - it would not power on. I checked the power supply with my multimeter, was good, so the failure was in the power interface inside the LinkStation. I returned that one and got another. I installed it and again it appeared to be working, and did so for 3 days. However, today, it simply disconnected the share from my network, preventing any access to it through normal Windows communications. Using the Buffalo utility, the drive was there and the data was available, but it could not be accessed through the normal Windows utilities, so that makes it useless as a music/media server for me. I am returning this second one, and am switching to another brand. 12% of all reviews on Amazon for this product are 1-star reviews, with many (most?) complaining about intermittent inexplicable dropouts from the network. Apparently some users are satisfied, and perhaps can simply use the Buffalo utilities, but I expect it to work like an industry-standard NAS drive, and these two that I got did not do so, so I will switch brands.

Good for a basic plug and play NAS
Works pretty well. Not too loud, in fact it really only makes a low noise when writing to the disc. It doesn’t take up much space on the shelf, though I should have done a little more research before making this specific purchase. I had gotten this with the intention of making a home server, but it lacks the processing and graphic capabilities that I required for the specific project I was aiming for, whereas their other products would have been perfect. In any case I definitely made it work, I used the nas as it was designed and is the storage for my server, as well as my family cloud storage. It came with its two 8TB hard drives, Ethernet cable, and power cable. If you just want a system that is pretty plug and play, this will work well for you, it’s software gives you capabilities to connect to it through NFS and SMB, so it works with Linux, Windows, and Mac. It has two 8TB hard drives with RAID 1 protection, so you don’t get the full 16TB to play with, but you do get 8TB with redundancy protection, which isn't a bad trade off. I liked how easy this was to set up, and how well it work for what it was, however, I didn’t care too much for the buffalo software, and preferred to have full control over the device, though the seller has seemed to make extra attempts to prevent the full removal and use of the NAS without the buffalo OS, I have forced it into emergency mode and am running Debian in its emergency os. If I personally were to get another NAS, I’d probably invest in just building my own. But if you just want a system that you won’t need to mess around with, that is just plug and play, this may be for you.

Solid performance at reasonable price.
I have several Buffalo NAS drives and haven’t had issues with any of them. Setup is easy and management software is intuitive. I bought this one as used and the password and done files were left on it, but factory reset was easy and I set it up quickly.

Works well
Set was easy and smooth. Able to transfer data to device without a problem. The only issue I do have is that my LG TV will not show it. Got a work around for it though. Would recommend

So far so good. 👍🏻
So far I haven’t had any issues with this server. I have it set so two 4TB drives are cloned in case I lose one. You can hear it if the room is quiet, but that’s not a problem for me.

Great NAS option for small businesses
It's very simple with the app or the GUI... I had it up and running, severing files in less than 5 mins, including the unpacking... These devices are getting expensive and I'd usually go for a competitor but they are way too expensive for most small businesses to utilize. This is a great option...

Provides ample space
Needed to upgrade my 4TB Seagate external drive. Spouse loves to take photos and record videos. This Buffalo LinkStation will probably give us enough media storage for another 5 years :)
