TV Without Cable: Your Complete Guide to Streaming TV & Over-the-Air Free TV

This book is a good short read It is to the point and no fluff. mr.Eldridge has a nack for making complex info readily easy to grasp. Even though this information is a few years old it is still pertinent in 2023. I had an antenna a few years ago and will now get another to go with my Fire tv. I am saving approximately $112 a month from using direct tv or cable. This book is a no-brainer if you are interested in cutting monthly expenditures.

Mr Eldredge did an excellent job in researching and composing this book. He verified the information I had before starting this book and took me well above and beyond my current knowledge. A must read for those looking for options other than cable for their entertainment.

So, what I would have liked was a specific instruction book...AS EXAMPLE:- Here's whats available.- Here's how you choose.- Here's what you do, &/or need to accomplish this......In all fairness, that's probably to much to ask or expect.1st part, explained streaming & 3 ways to access. ...good!Next, the various services available. Here, things started to get a little cloudier, as example; '…no ads - except if/when...'.My biggest Question (that surely showcases my total lack of anything technical) is: HOW do I fulfill the main requirement for hi-speed dsl? Do any of the streaming services provide them? ...or, do I need - as I suspect, a 'different' service?? ..&,which is best, where to look & how to determine which one??

This small but mighty book changed our entertainment life and is saving us about $100 each month since we followed the general guidelines presented by the author by buying a decent OTA indoor antenna (from Amazon) and, with our Amazon Prime membership include a Fire TV Stick with remote control and a Chromecast for our second TV. After hooking up the OTA antenna and running an automatic channel scan we came up with 193 channels available in our SoCal area. The Amazon Fire TV stick with remote control and Chromecast controlled by an Android app provide all the entertainment we need after terminating our DirecTV subscription saving us over $100 every month. If you're in an area where there are plenty of OTA free digital channels (and they are HD), this could be a money-saving option for you. Get the book and find out more about it.

Book was written/printed in 2015! Ridiculous …. As an example, it listed Netflix as costing $8…. Now it is $22 per month! Old news…..

A good guide for a newbie techie. It can get you up to speed very quickly. Some of the information in this volume is already out-of-day, but I'm sure Mr. Eldredge has more current information (which is presented in concise, easy-to-understand prose) with follow-up information in chapters. Best booklet I've read on the cable-game. Arrrrrrgh those companies. I'm already on the path of creating my own low-cost entertainment viewing universe.

Cable cutters learn about 'over the air TV' very quickly and the book does not expand much beyond some antenna choices. The book has many good suggestions on how to get a large variety of programming over WiFi, both fee and free. The BIG PROBLEM is the most important necessity to get all and any of these is a low cost WiFi providers where the pickings are very slim and definitely makes the book NOT a complete guide.

When I saw the 2015 Edition on the back cover, I started to walk straight over to the trash can. Then, I thought, "I'll Return it." 7-year-old data in today's rapid changes in technology. But, it didn't cost much and may have some value for research.I'll just buy another book and research how current it is first.
