Very good Lupin film with a few shortcomings
Voyage to Damger is a very good film and ranks favorably among some of the other Lupin films. It's no Cagliostro or Nostradamus, but it's great for Lupin fans as well as fans of action thrillers! The plot is pretty straightforward like all other Lupin films, but it wasn't executed as well as it could've been. Some scenes have some clunky dialogue, and some pieces of the story could've used a rewrite. Also it drags for a bit too long, maybe could've thrown out 15 minutes or so, as the finale is nonstop action for a long time. The best thing in the film is the relationship between characters Jigen and Doctor Karen, which I won't spoil here, but they keep that side of the plot interesting throughout the film. The dub, which was done by Funimation years back when they released Lupin films, isn't the best. The actors are great choices, and their work in Farewell to Nostradamus is spectacular, so I know they can do an amazing job. It's just the material they had to work with here wasn't good enough for them. Hopefully Nostradamus gets a blu Ray or DVD release by Discotek in the future as well!Animation is pretty good considering it's a TV Special, but the color palette and style is what I love the most about this film. The characters look a bit different here, and I love it! Plus some of the backgrounds, while being a simple gradient, are suck warm colors that the film is a joy to look at! Far from Cagliostro and Fuma Conspiracy, but those are some of the most well animated films of all time so I'm not complaining! Plus this was much lower budget.Overall, if the few bits of writing I mentioned were changed and a few scenes had some rewrites, this could've been among the best Lupin films! It's just under the very best, so still awesome enetettainment, and I highly recommend it!
