Suffering a broken heart, Emma wishes it away. Quickly aware of what a bad choice she made, she takes the one opportunity he has to get it back from those it was redistributed to … piece by piece.I went into this comic knowing nothing about it, and I recommend staying as close to that as possible. The back cover text gives away too much in my opinion, so I’d avoid it (and website descriptions of the book, etc) if at all possible.I picked this up because of the intriguing cover and being previously familiar with Meredith McClaren’s amazing art. Her self written comic Hinges is a joy. Her style and versatility is a perfect match for Kelly Thompson’s desperate tale of adult heartbreak, emptiness, and growth.There are parts I wish we’re fleshed out a little more and a couple of lingering questions, but overall Emma’s journey is wondrous, intense, and thought provoking. All beautifully brought to life by Thompson and McClaren.I won’t go further to avoid spoiling anything, but I highly recommend Heart in a Box.

Kelly Thompson and Meredith McClaren are an awesome duo, and I love that they explored darker aspects of love and loss, and where it takes people. Meredith's art has developed quite a bit from her Hinges days (which I also love) and it's good to see. The ending is one of my favorite endings concerning regaining love and learning how to share it again.

As an enthusiastic fan of the new Jem & The Holograms comic, I *had* to check out more work done by the author, Kelly Thompson, to see what other gems she had created. I was not disappointed! A truly heart-wrenching story that makes for a good read and well worth it.

A really amazing story, definitely worth a read, even if you don't normally like GN's.

The story is compelling and the art is fantastic. Between this and Hinges I'm officially in love with Meredith McClaren's style.

What did I just read?Where did this come from? Why is it on my shelf?Don’t get me wrong. It’s amazing.I’ve just never read anything like it, and can’t remember where I got it.Oh! My girlfriend just informed me she knew the author from her podcast.Plus, I’d already read a book by her! Crazy.Anyway, this book was wild. It was really different. The story, the art, everything.Check it out. Definitely recommended.It had so much soul, you know?And a lot of heart!Bahahahaha!

Fantastic book, can't recommend enough don't feel I could do the story enough justice to summarise.This book covers varying degrees of love and loss and at least one if not all will strike a chord with the reader.Fantastic artwork and very clever use of colour within this book. A must read not just for comic readers but readers in general

In dieser Geschichte geht es um eine junge Frau, die sich aufgrund emotional schmerzhafter Vergangenheit wünscht, kein Herz, ergo keine Gefühle zu haben. Leider passiert dann eben dies. Also klassisches "laut gedacht, jemand erfüllt's, sofortige Reue tritt ein".Ich möchte nicht zu viel vorwegnehmen, aber die Stationen, an denen sie die Einzelteile wieder zurückkriegt, sind sehr intensive Interaktionen. Endgegnerkämpfe finden hier quasi über Momente der Selbsterkenntnis statt- ein Scott Pilgrim ohne Waffen irgendwie.Man merkt, als Kontrast zu den meisten DCs/Marvels, dass das ganze von einer weiblichen Belegschaft erschaffen wurde- durch die Expressivität der Figuren, nicht-idealisierter, kurvenreicher Artstyle der Figuren und un"epische", alltägliche Texte. Aber genug jetzt, jeder, der ein Comic zuklappen will mit einem Gefühl, etwas für DIESE Realität jenseits von Kal-Els Powerlevel oder Ichiros Unterhöschenfetisch gelernt zu haben, sollte es kaufen. ErschafferInnen solcher schönen Einzelwerke sollten immer unterstützt werden.Einen Stern Abzug gibts meinerseits nur leider für- den sehr passenden, aber doch sehr diffusen Zeichen- und Erzählstil. Er passt absolut zum Inhalt, aber auch nach 20 Jahren Comiclesens hatte ich bei manchen Panels so meine Übersichtsprobleme.- und den Umfang, der absolut ohne Probleme noch 20% mehr vertragen hätte, ohne der Story etwas hinzufügen zu müssen.

Anyone who's interested in starting reading comics should try this book. It just nice, the layouts are so nice and smooth to read.Story speaks for itself! I loved reading it and once I was done with it I gave it to my Wife to read it! ;)
