Chinese Mahjong Mah Jongg Set with 144 Mini Tiles Dot Dice Leather Box Extra White Tiles for Travel Family Game

Like many I imagine, I decided to get this out of the many Mahjong sets on Amazon in large part because it offered the whole experience for a cheaper price, and this is one of very few examples where I can say 'you get what you pay for' AND be very happy with it.The main drawback about the set that becomes clear as soon as you handle it is the size - the pieces are tiny, comparable to the upper third of your pinky finger. Friends have compared them to cheese blocks. A larger more traditional mahjong set may feel better on the hands, and even be easier to flip in lines (ie when you form a hand and want to press the ends together and flip your tiles up from the table or down to reveal your hand). BUT once you accept that they aren't the normal, they're actually quite cute and unique. I really like the tiny size and of course this makes the set very portable. They're not low quality, and the box itself looks resplendent with gorgeous inlay that sets the mahjong mood.For the newcomer to Mahjong, I'd highly recommend this as a low-cost entry set, particularly if price is of concern. Some notes: the instructions that come with the box for playing Mahjong have a certain old-school aesthetic which is nice! But they aren't the best resource for newcomers, being both too succinct to cover all the particularities of Mahjong, and too long to make for concise easy reading, (especially if your group wants to play the Japanese Riichi variant which isn't described at all), and has some typos. I'd use online resources instead, particularly for scoring where digital score tabulation sites remove the need for the extensive hand-based score counting. The set contains 2 extra tiles and 8 flowers and seasons (I put these in a bag separately since our group doesn't use them, but they're interspersed with the rest. It does not appear to include scoring sticks or a marker for the seat-wind or round-wind. It also doesn't have anything to hold your hand in place if you want such a thing.With all that said, and noting my stance as someone relatively familiar with Mahjong but more in digital game environments wanting to try playing in person with friends, I am very happy with my purchase. Know what you're getting; it's not a classic large mahjong set, but it has a personality! And it may just be right for your group. And hey, no discounting that it's a damn fine deal!

WAAAY TOO SMALL!!!!

The pieces were a little smaller then I thought they were going to be, but they were in good condition, and everything was accounted for.

It looks like a delicate chinese antique. It can be a good gift for friend

The box looks like someone used.. and inside, some of the words are faded.. kind of light and small, easy to carry. Good for traveling. For me, I think is not value for the price..

Was so happy to finally get a set for myself but was disappointed when I opened the package. Almost every single tile was opened in the package. The case was missing the latch that helps close the case. It wasn't in the package so I can't put it back on. Now I have the tiles in a Ziploc bag.
