No index!
Loved the exhibition, so I wanted the book. The book is not heavily academic and is very pretty. I will enjoy returning to look at the pictures. But at the moment I've chucked it aside in frustration - there's no index at front or back! There's a list of the paintings - is it asking too much for the number of the page where they appear to be added alongside ie an index?? So until you become very familiar with the book it's really difficult to find a particular work. I've been hunting for the cover picture, a Gaddi, I think (the book doesn't tell you what it is).A good souvenir of a lovely exhibition; an enjoyable, unchallenging picture book if you like pre-1500 Italian. Which I very much do.

Beautiful images and prayer
Beautiful prints and nice commentary linking art with the liturgy. Good size, images are large enough to make out finer details.

A book to lift the soul
Beautifully produced book. If you are a fan of medieval religious painting, you will love it too!

Attractive but dully written
Alas I did not get to see this fine exibition. While this book is beautifully illustrated it does have a rather pedestrian text. I would have liked more material about the production of altarpieces. Still the book is a usefull and visually attractive product that introduces the reader to an interesting aspect of art history - pity about the dull prose though.
