The band performed 87 shows in 1991 and 77 the following year. Their next studio effort, Shades of Two Worlds (1992), produced the crowd favorite 'Nobody Knows' and they followed this with a live album, An Evening with the Allman Brothers Band: First Set, recorded at their 1992 residency at New York's Beacon Theater. The Allmans performed ten consecutive shows there (establishing themselves as a New York rite of spring, according to biographer Alan Paul), which set the stage for their return nearly every year thereafter. The band grew contentious over a 1993 tour, in which Betts was arrested after an altercation with two police officers. Struggling to find a replacement guitarist, they brought in David Grissom. Warren Haynes by this time was both opening with his own band and headlining with the Allman Brothers, and considered leaving the group due to what he described as their increasing lack of communication. Despite the growing tension, Haynes remained a member and Betts returned. Their third post-reunion record, Where It All Begins (1994), was recorded entirely live. The band continued to tour with greater frequency, attracting younger generations with their headlining of the H.O.R.D.E. Festival. The group were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in January 1995, although Gregg Allman was severely inebriated and could not make it through his acceptance speech. Seeing the ceremony broadcast on television later, Allman was mortified, providing a catalyst for his final, successful attempt to quit alcohol and substance abuse. In November 1995, The Allman Brothers Band were the headline act for an episode of Austin City Limits, the long running Public Television live music show. Performing an hour long set, largely made up of oldies and classics, they also played - as opener - one of their finest late period songs, the magnificent 'Sailin' Across The Devil's Sea' from Where It All Begins.

Might be a good performance if you could actually hear it
What a disappointment! For reasons unknown Amazon sent this CD with a signature requirement that couldn't be overridden. So after 2 failed delivery attempts I had to have it held at UPS for pickup as if it were a gold watch or something. Well, I figured if this CD is so fine that Amazon won't even risk dropping it off without a John Hancock, it must really be something to hear!Something wretched is what it turned out to be. The mix is absolutely dreadful. It sounds much worse than many amateur Dead Head recordings that were made by audience members at Dead concerts back when they were so stoned they couldn't even hold a microphone stand straight up. Those guys are engineering geniuses compared to whoever worked on this monstrosity. Some of the guitar tracks do come through. But Greg Allman's vocals are buried and muffled to the point where it sounds like he's singing into a pillow. And the overall frequency response is so truncated you feel like you're listening to the first part of Wish You Were Here -- you know the part that's deliberately bandpass filtered so it sounds like a cheap plastic record player? Except there's no surprising full spectrum reprieve on this thing. It just goes on and on sounding like they're playing inside a tin can. I have absolutely no idea why this turkey was dredged up and put on the market but do yourself a favor and stay far, far away!!!!!

Great Show by the 90's lineup of the Allman Brothers Band
I'm really enjoying this CD. Dickey is particularly strong on this effort ("Ramblin' Man," "Blue Sky," and "Where it All Begins."). Warren handles the vocals on a deep, blusey "Same Thing." The sound quality is good, but not great. Overall, I feel like it's a solid performance.

This CD is now the worst sounding disc I own
This CD is now the worst sounding disc I own. What a shame because the playing is spirited, especially on "One Way Out" and "Midnight Rider", but the recording sounds as if it was made by someone seated in the audience holding a microphone. I had really high hopes for this CD since I am a huge ABB fan and also I own a copy of a David Byrne Live from Austin City Limits CD that has spectacular sound. I'd feel okay had I only spent $5-6 on this, but for the price it is being sold for it is a bust. Next garage sale we have, this will be on the 50 cents table.

The Band Great Recording

Oh lordy, another great performance, band are on top form. Buy this beauty with complete confidence.
Another grey release, not available legally in the US or Japan, but lucky old us, eh? Nearly an hour-long television [and radio?] broadcast, from November 1995, [not 1985 as advertised in the track listing from Amazon and the back of the cd], this concert has been edited onto cd really well to produce a seamless string of old favourites and newer songs. I believe this was edited down from a complete 2 hour plus show to produce a 1 hour television special. To me, this really is the classic Mk 2 line-up with Gregg, Dickey, Butch, & Jaimoe, along with 'newbies' Warren Haynes,[gtr] Allen Woody [bass] and Marc Quinones [percussion]. A superb concert with the band on top form with none of the inner turmoil going on within the band at that time on show here. If you have 'An Evening With....Vols 1 & 2' and 'Play All Night' [and if not, why not?] you will know the quality of music being made at that particular time. This concert sits right up there beside those fine cds. I really cannot pick a favourite track, but 'Midnight Rider' with Gregg on acoustic & vcls, Dickey on electric & vcls and Jaimoe on drums is stunning in its simplicity. Well done, Go Faster records, keep 'em coming!. Buy this one with confidence.

The Fall of the Rise
Initially, I was of two minds whether a purchase of this disc would have been made if the benefit of a preview were an option. This is basically a bootleg with Gregg's voice sounding like he's singing into a coffee filter. Sound quality is poor and the performances are uneven, but considering the crap the band was going through at the time maybe that's no wonder. On the bright side, after repeated listening one tends to overlook the initial feelings of disappointment and appreciates the disc and all it's flaws for its true worth. A glimpse back to a transitional period when the band beset with internal strife, still stuck to their guns and attempted to forge a path through the tunnels of darkness and doubt in search of past glories and new summits to scale. History shows that thankfully, they emerged triumphant. To be sure this disc is not their finest hour, but to my mind, pound for pound they were the best live band ever, and even middling ABB is better than none at all. Rest in Peace Gregg, Skydog, Barry and Butch.
