Great value, does as intended
I have always used the Bluetooth modules to read codes of the OBDII port. Always vanished from sight for some strange reason. I tend to not put things back in a rememberable spot, so it is my wrongdoing.Anyway, I decided to go with a fully self-contained reader and this thing is much easier to use than the others.By others I mean the Bluetooth, wi-fi whaa?, it won't connect, maybe turn it off then on again, wait it has no power switch, maybe it's my phone, lose me I dare you, maybe it is IOS, or maybe it just is a dud, why did I buy you thingy, I hate you thingy, I will lose you forever!Enter this little gem. Powered by the OBDII port of your car so no batteries needed. No silly app to download with optional purchases for your vehicle, and no I didn't give them my email address either. Just plugged it in and in 15 seconds, the device was awaiting my input. ready to work out of the box.The screen was easy to read with my 54 year old eyeballs, no squinting needed! Self explanatory menu, easy to understand. My Mustang has a faulty fuel injector , I just googled the Pcode. This is no pro model at this price point. It does not diagnose and troubleshoot the vehicle. It will read the codes stored in the car's computer that mostly relate to emissions. Engine misfires, cats not up to temp, O2 sensors, fuel injectors misfiring, engine running lean or rich, etc. It will tell you what code is causing the check engine light to come on. It will also clear it. A word of caution, do not reset codes before you have to take the car to emissions. Most cars need to 'cycle' through several real world tests to show a status of READY, which is what the emissions testing looks for. It took me a week of highway driving, street driving, heat up and cool down cycles, shifting through all the gears then slowing down by coasting with no brakes. Every car is different, so just google "OBD readiness Drive cycle" and the make and model and year of the car.Note:If possible, when working on a vehicle either before or after an E-Check OBD II test; do not clear theDiagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC’s) so that the check engine light remains on after the repair(s).Therefore, if it was the correct repair, the check engine light will turn off on its own while driving thevehicle through its drive cycle and signals to the driver that the vehicle is ready to be tested. If the checkengine light does not turn off, then additional repair(s) may be required. Remind your repair technicianIf the repairs require the computer codes to be cleared or a battery disconnect (which also clears them),then be sure to drive the vehicle for at least two or three days (older vehicles may take more time)including both highway and city miles. This will result in setting the OBD monitors to “ready” and readyfor an emissions test. Unfortunately, when the codes are cleared it turns the check engine light off and itis a guessing game as to when the computer monitors are “ready.” The generic drive cycle below mayor may not be helpful but it will give you a better idea of what driving parameters usually need to bemet. This may need to be repeated 2 to 5 times depending on the make, model and age of the vehicle.*Do this all at the same time and not in pieces (does not need to be exact)1. Let the vehicle sit for 8 hours2. Start the vehicle and let it warm up3. Drive for at least 10 minutes at highway speeds (55 mph or more)4. Drive for at least 20 minutes in urban traffic with at least 4 idle periodsthat you prefer to keep the check engine light on after the repair(s) if possible.I had to learn all that the hard way btw.All in all, I recommend this product for purchase as a good buy, and great value for the money.Ray

So far, so good. Clear, easy.
I've used OBD2 readers before. This device is easy to use, has clear directions, tactile easy buttons that work without difficulty. (No small buttons that require a child to deploy). I located the OBD2 port on my car, inserted the plug and the device instantly powered up. Hit "enter" to get going and then started the ignition. The codes were thrown and there were also multiple screens with car data being relayed. I would highly recommend using this type of device, instead of a Bluetooth largely because you avoid the craziness of expecting a hardware company to write an app well. Stick to what works and don't go seeking a slightly smaller form factor at the expense of an app that may or may not work well. The only small problem that came up (but wasn't a problem): When going through the screens to erase my code, the device stated the code could not be erased and there was an error. I cycled through and repeated multiple times, with the same message displayed. In the end, it didn't matter because the code was actually erased, and my check engine light did go out. If you are new to using an OBD-2, you should get one just for piece of mind. The code that was thrown was super easy to research on the inter-net information superhighway and I was able to fix my problem in a matter of minutes. The device is small and feels rugged; its packaging included a waterproof zip-seal bag and a sturdy cardboard box. My new OBD-2 detector is now in my car, at the ready should I again have a "check engine" light on it. The economical price should not dissuade you...the plastics, chips, and software can't cost more than a few bucks; there is no battery or power source on the device (it is powered by your car and it requires minimum power). Finally, the instruction manual was clear, for a "Made in China" product, but you won't need them if you have used an OBD-2 before. If you are new to it, the instructions and its slightly "less-than-fluent" English is good enough for you to figure out how to use this very easy tool. If you are new to OBD-2 diagnostics, empower yourself and buy this. Don't waste your time driving to the $tealership and avoid ridiculous $100 diagnostic fees when you can get the same diagnostic code in under a minute (upon plugging the device in). Happy car diagnostics/repairs!

A Must-Have for Quick Car Diagnostics
I've used OBD2 readers before, and this one stands out for being user-friendly with clear instructions and easy-to-press buttons—no tiny buttons that require precision or frustration. I found the OBD2 port in my car, plugged in the device, and it powered up immediately. After pressing "enter" and starting the engine, the codes appeared along with various screens displaying car data.I highly recommend this device over a Bluetooth version because it avoids the issues that come with relying on an app, which may not be well-designed. Stick to a device that works reliably without sacrificing functionality for a smaller size. The only minor issue I encountered was while trying to erase a code. The device displayed an error message saying the code couldn't be erased, but after cycling through the process a few times, the code was indeed cleared, and my check engine light turned off.If you're new to OBD2 scanners, this tool is great for peace of mind. The error code I got was easy to research, and I fixed the problem in minutes. The device itself feels rugged and comes packaged in a waterproof zip-seal bag and a sturdy box, ready to stay in my car for future use.Don't be put off by the affordable price—the build quality is solid, and it draws power directly from your car, so no batteries are needed. The instruction manual, while not perfect in translation, is clear enough for beginners to follow. If you're new to OBD2 diagnostics, this tool is a smart buy. Skip the dealership’s expensive diagnostic fees, and get the same code reading in under a minute. Highly recommended for quick and easy car diagnostics!
