I used to think you needed a keyed chuck to make sure the jaws were tight enough, but this chuck has grip to spare. The way they built it, when loaded it tightens itself but not to the point where it's hard to release. I put a dial indicator on it and its true to within 4/1000ths total runout (so 2/1000ths from center axis which includes the small runout in the spindle). I put a big 1.25" forstner bit into it and drilled some hard maple and it cut right in no issues. It opens and closes very smoothly too. Not the cheapest chuck available but really high quality.

This keyless chuck has a Jacob’s taper of JT33 which fits the spindle on my 14” Delta drill press. Although this unit is a bit pricey, it fits the spindle perfectly and is relatively light and small (compared to other less pricey models). It holds the drill bits quite well and is fairly easy to turn (to tighten and loosen the bits).There is no substitute for quality and this product epitomizes this well. I highly recommend it as an upgrade to other drill presses with JT33 spindles.
