I love the capacity of this garbage can. Also it has a large opening so you can easily empty other waste basket into this larger one. It also has a holding system that holds your garbage bag in place. So it's always fitted in the garbage can. I use 30 gallon bags. When the lid is closed, no awful smells seep out. The only weakness is the opening of the lid. It's working as usual but when I first received it, the plastic nodule that is crucial for the whole foot pedal lid opening functionality to work was broken probably due to the poor shipping packaging. Each time I press the foot pedal, the lid came off of the garbage can on the side where the nodule was broken. This shows how fragile and dependent the foot pedal lid opening mechanism is. However, I returned the defective one and got a new one that works. It's working so far and it's absolutely wonderful. I hope these nodules will last. The other thing that can be improved is to put some sort of rubber under the garbage can to stop the garbage can from sliding back each time the foot pedal is pressed. It keeps on moving but this annoyance is tolerable but I would prefer if the design team would resolve this minor flaw.

Good value imo.The lid is a bit flimsy and thinner than the rest of the can. Definately NOT odor free even with the recommended Gain trash bags- which is why I bought this option. Seems like the odor is stronger in this one than my old one that broke which I can no longer find. The foot pedal needs to come out more so I dont have to tippy toe, I'm not sure how a larger shoe would ever functionally open this trash can w the foot pedal. It seems a little burried back more than it should be. Wearing sandals i have to crush my toes lol. Great size, holds the right amount for my kitchen. As its hard to find this size for that price. The bag holder arms are a convenient feature. But if the bag is too heavy, it starts to pull on these and it is difficult to get the bag back from them... Love the color, matte black is very easy to clean and the main part of the can is thick and seems sturdy enough to last for a while.

Update: Followed the advice of a recent review to contact the manufacturer (which is not Glad). Glad had me call Volume Brands where I left a message. They called me back asking me to email them my Amazon receipt and a photo of the inside of the hinge on the can to show them that I had the "old version" of the can which they admit is faulty (plastic part of the lid that holds onto the pin in the base only goes half-way around the pin; new version goes all the way around). I emailed that to 'info at volumedist dot com' and they promptly sent me a new lid with instructions to install it. Now it works perfectly. Great customer service. They were very timely and proactive!The size of this trash can is exactly what we were looking for - large enough for a family of five so we take out the trash once a day instead of twice. After a few months, as stated in other reviews, the lid pops off with every use making it impossible to open the lid without pushing it back down to snap on. There's no way to open the lid when the hinge pops apart. Another reviewer said she zip-tied the hinge which I did by drilling a few holes for the ties. The hinge on the lid definitely needs to be redesigned. - Update: The lid was redesigned and we quickly received a replacement by contacting the manufacturer.
