Kool Stop Modolo Inserts Brake Pad (Pack of 4)

Perfect fit for my '80's Modolo brake pads. I needed these because the brake pad holder has a longer screw than newer brake pads so I needed to use the old Modolo brake pad holders. It was hard to get these new pads in, but it was also hard to get the old pads out. I had to use a vise, pliers, and a mallet to get them in and out, but it only took a few seconds for each pad once I had good equipment. i probably could have gotten it out with fewer tools if I'd had more patience.The new pads have more stopping power than the 80's OEM ones and solved my squeaking problems indefinitely. No more waking up neighbors on my morning rides.

These are a super replacement for the likely 30+ year old pads on your Modolo brakes. You have to bend slightly the arms of the calipers to get them to be toed in (google toeing in road bike brakes) otherwise they will squeal like crazy. However, once I slightly bent the arms to achieve the toe in, they don't make any noise and even going 40mph downhill, I can confidently brake with one finger on each lever. Park Bicycle Tools used to make a tool for bending the arms, but it is discontinued, you can use a very small crescent wrench and it doesn't take much, just enough that the back of the pad (towards the back of the bike) is off the rim when you apply the brakes and the front of the pad is touching. Did the job perfectly but difficult to remove the old and insert the new ones.

I had been cobbling Campy-compatible pads onto the Modolos (shaving the square corners on one side) but these fit the curved end perfectly, out of the package. Already knew from experience that Kook Stop pad material brakes effectively and are quiet.Top-quality product and company.

After 38 yrs of hassle-free riding the same Bianchi Campione d’Italia, I realized that my bike would not stop like it used to. Realizing that I was still using the original (and now heavily worn) brake pads, I thankfully and luckily found replacements from Kool Stop for these vintage Modolo Speedy brakes. During a major brake overhaul when I also replaced brake cables and cable housing, I used a vice to slowly remove the old Modolo pads and slide the new Kool Stop pads into the Modolo shoes. Wow, what an improvement in stopping...and quiet, too.

Dare I say it? Once broken in, these may be better than the original Sinterized Modolo pads. Not sure that they stop any better than a set of no-name Chinese pads and shoes, but they certainly look cooler.
