Item works well. Doesn't take up much room, and stores easily.Made sushi for the first time with 3 other people who had never made it and most of us were fine. We used wax paper this time but I hope to get food storage bags like other reviewers suggested, otherwise you will need a brush to get the mats clean.Watched lots of youtube on how to roll sushi and I highly recommend you doing so as well. The rice included instructions on how to make sushi rice and we found no benefit to roasting our Nori a second time as one recipe recommended. We seemed to struggle to get the ingredients to spread evenly since the ends of the roll would fall apart when cut but that is not a fault of the product, just user error.I do have one complaint, the spoon and spreader seems to be splintering just the slightest amount. Normally it helps keep the rice from sticking if everything you are using has been soaked so I am not sure how much worse the splintering would be if we had actually soaked them. They should probably also be oiled in between use with an oil that won't get rancid. The chop sticks are great, they look impressive in person and feel like a better quality material than the spoon and spreader and are worth the $7 on their own (in my opinion). You can't beat $7 for what you get. Though if you really want to be cheap about it, forget the spoon, grab some free chopsticks from the sushi part of the grocery store and use just small bamboo placemats to roll your sushi. I only used the set once and am looking forward to sushi making as a weekly thing. I am also considering buying more as gifts to go with the DIY pre-assembled binder cook books I plan on gifting as well.

Our sushi rolls did not end up very great or appealing. Made my rice with too much rice vinegar, that’s on me. Rolls came out looking like a war zone because they stuck to the bamboo though. Next time I made rolls I used Saran Wrap to avoid the sticking, worked great

I bought this because I wanted to try my hand at making my own sushi, but didn't want to spend a whole lot. I was finally able to try it out this weekend, and it was pretty fun! This little kit is so inexpensive but it worked perfectly! It was so simple and my rolls came out nice and even. The rice paddle and spreader worked great. The spreader really makes it easy to get the rice down in an even layer without the rice sticking to it. It comes with 2 mats, slightly different styles but both worked equally well. My daughter wants to try it next time and with these mats, she will be able to do it easily. My family said the rolls looked so pretty and just like what we would get at our favorite restaurant. Clean up was easy too. To clean the mats, you simply wipe them down with a soapy cloth, rinse with clean water, then set out to dry. I cleaned the paddles like I do any other wooden cooking utensils. I look forward to experimenting with different kinds of rolls with this thing!

I loved the price so much ($10) that I bought one for a gift and one for myself. They arrived in 3 days. The how to use instructions are easy to follow. What I didn't like is the instructions dont tell you how to actually make sushi. It tells you how to use the paddle to mix the rice with vinegar (!?) then use it to lay the rice. Product would be 5⭐ if I didn't have to find directions to show me how to make sushi, print out or hand write them for myself and to add to the gift.

I bought it for my 8 year old son who showed interest in making sushi. It's definitely a nice kit that has everything you need to make sushi. Easy to use and clean. My son is very happy to make his own sushi.Edited: After reading the reviews I want to add that we received a complete set in a perfect shape. I bought 2 months ago and used it several times with no molds problem. The kit is easy to use and store. For this price you get many useful pieces to serve the purpose of the kit. Happy customer here. I hope this can help undecided buyers after reading the reviews.

So I recently bought s sushi gun from moxie and co., thought it would be easy and fun. Well after a failed attempt at the ugliest looking rice slop. I tried tired again. The rolls came out good but I was sad because I personally like rice on the out Side of my rolls and with the sushi maker gun you can't do that so I decided to order this old fashion bamboo roller figured I would give it a try. Honestly I watched a YouTube video on how to roll sushi and it was the easiest thing ever. Take the bamboo roller and face it so that the lines are vertical. Place a piece of plastic wrap down over the mat. Put some sesame seeds down spread the sushi rice in a square the size of your Seaweed paper paper place your seaweed paper down, put your ingredients about 1 inch from the edge roll everything tucking under and just keep doing that tilll you get to the end remove Matt and plastic wrap. Wet a very sharp knife and cut. This process was so easy i'm not sure what I was scared of originally and I should've bought this to begin with because I probably won't use the sushi gone again. Using this Matt saved me about 20 minutes not using that plastic gun.

Such a small purchase for so much yummy fun! The mats work beautifully, and when covered with plastic wrap do not need to be washed. The rice paddle was definitely useful and I believe it is a tool that really does make a difference when stirring the vinegar into the rice. Quality items for a very low price. Having two mats is definitely the way to go so that you don’t have to work alone and it becomes a fun activity, and dinner is ready faster. If you are debating ordering these items (this set of mats and paddles, a sharp knife, and sushi ingredients) like I was, vs just ordering takeout sushi, you won’t regret giving it a try! Dinner and entertainment all in one : )
