Improves Your Skill in the Kitchen and Makes Cooking More Fun
These silicone butcher's twine ties from Cestari Kitchen are awesome! I've never had trouble tying food the traditional way with kitchen string and a few basic knots, but these were far more convenient, less messy, easier to remove, and fun to use. One side is smooth and the other side is ridged so that it functions much like a zip tie, except that it is just as easy to remove. The smooth side can be used to minimize the impressions made on the food if presentation is important; otherwise, the ridged side can be used facing the food to secure a better grip on slippery foods such as buttered or oiled chicken. Another problem that these cooking ties eliminate is that kitchen twine absorbs juices so that when the meal is finished cooking, the twine often is the same color as the food and bits and pieces of it sometimes get left behind or become gummy. The silicone ties are non-stick and remove easily, plus, they are easy to see since they are bright red and do not change color during the cooking process. If the ties are too long, you can simply wrap it around the food a few extra times or simply tuck it in somewhere. I made rolled chicken with prosciutto and sage (kind of like a rolled saltimbocca using chicken instead of veal) for my first venture with these ties and wrapped the loose ends in opposite directions and secured them with a simple square knot to keep them from unraveling. I was very pleased with the results and they made the entire process much easier and cleaner than using cooking twine. Also, they are long enough to use with any size bird including turkey. Another tip for these food ties is that they can be looped and prepared in advance so that when they are ready to secure the food, you simply slip the loop over the food and tighten to secure. Easy and convenient! If you are a cook or chef, you will love these too!

Silicone stretches too much to be used a butchers twine substitute.
The silicon used to make this twine substitute stretches and does not adequately secure for proper cooking (in my case chickens for cooking on the rotisserie). The enlarged bumps slide out with the slightest pull. The only way to secure the birds legs and wings are to pull the strings so tight you fear they will snap and tie using a knot I spent more than twenty minutes trying to truss two birds for placing on the spit, the wings and legs could not be held tight enough for cooking so I wound up going back to cotton cooking twine. Upon further examination of the photo used for the package it is quite clear there is no real tension on the wings/wing tips and legs. The small diameter of the silicone material yields too much stretch to be used as a substitute for butchers twine for trussing birds.

the twines come loose easily but I am able to stretch them and tuck ...
Mostly works as stated, the twines come loose easily but I am able to stretch them and tuck them back in to themselves with good results. We use this in our rotisserie, the twines do not burn or break from the heat.

Worked very well
Worked very well on my 25.5 lb. Thanksgiving turkey. By stringing 2 ties together, I was bale to easily get around the bird to hold the wings and the legs in place. The only reason for 4-stars instead of 5 is that you definitely need to use knots to keep the bird trussed. Unlike the similarly designed annoying retail tag holders, these come apart very easily unless you use at least a half hitch to secure them. I've used rubber band type ties in the past but was never sure what they were made of. These are good quality silicone. Kind of creepy when just sitting on the counter, though!

Best ONLY for chicken
Very difficult to use on a pork roast. Chicken I can see would be easy. Had to go back to twine to secure roast with my seasoning to stay inside

Thanksgiving's Around The Corner and These Are Gonna Make it EASY!
I don't write reviews often, but I had to this time...The fact is, these silicone butchers twine ties are a GREAT Investment.I cook a lot... And I've dealt with cooking asparagus, collards, and mustard greens (good ol' southern cookin'!!) for the longest time. It's honestly a real pain in the butt because I can NEVER get those last few leafs or asparagus spears out of the pot without submerging my hands in the boiling water! It really wasn't practical to use regular butcher's twine Every Time I Cooked because I would run out so fast... Did I mention I cook a lot?But the silicone butchers twine ties are really amazing because I can use them over and over again! It's really a life saver and...as one of the cheapest humans on the face of the Earth...a great MONEY SAVER!I could talk about these things all day... The color is amazing, they're reusable, they're EASY to use, and they're also really Safe & Sanitary. The safety and sanitary part is Huge for me.I was pleased to find out that silicone was BPA free and chemical free because I worry about such things... But believe it or not, I've also always been a bit very concerned about some of the old-fashioned butchers twine strings breaking off into my food and me swallowing it! I've also been scared of the chemicals from the cotton leaking into my food... These really solve the problem and cooking couldn't be more stress-free.Again, I could go on for days about the quality of these butcher twine ties and how they totally eliminate the need for toothpicks in chicken cordon bleu or how they're even strong enough to hold up my 16lb speaker! (I tested it just for fun)But with Thanksgiving right around the corner, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND you get a pair of these and see how great they are for yourself!
