Shakti: 51 Sacred Peethas of the Goddess

A book explaining each of the 51 Shakti Peethas. I read about each Shakti Peetha one day at a time. It felt like I was at each one of those kshetras as I read. It is a good read for those interested in the Divine Mother and knowing each one of her Peethas.

This book is like going on a reading pilgrimage to the major 51 power centers of the Shaakta tradition. A lot of effort put into compiling details such as history of the sites, names of Devis and their respective consorts, the shlokas and the parv at each location. Every Shakti Peeth chapter emanates the power of Devi. As one reads through, some chapters give a surge of energy - probably the ones that resonate the most to one's own energy field.

What I loved most about this book is the detailing. The way the author started the book from sharing details about Brahma to Daksha to Bhairava to each Shakti Peetha is amazing. There are so many things which will surprise us. The stories, the rituals described by the author are mesmerising. The author has also shared beautiful pictures of Shakti Peethas.The way each chapter starts with a Shloka to the details, I loved it. The simple and engaging writing style of the author keeps the readers hooked throughout. It's a must-read book for all the Mythology lovers.

I'm amazed at how much fascinating information Alka has packed into this. Definitely a book to not only read yourself but to gift to friends.

Expected a elaboration on the places of worship but was a disappointment.
