The Goetia of Dr Rudd: The Angels & Demons of Liber Malorum Spirituum Seu Geotia Lemegeton Clavicula Salomonis (Sourceworks of Ceremonial Magic, 3)

Authoritative Practical Goetic Grimoire
I have multiple books from the Sourceworks collection, and this one does not disappoint. No effective grimoire should be like a recipe book with line-item steps—it is secret knowledge, after all—but Dr. Skinner and Rankine do their best to present the information and procedures like glowing breadcrumbs for the serious magical aspirant. With nice binding, quality paper, and wonderful appendices, this book is indispensable for a working magical library.

The best scholarship edition of this text that you can own
There are many editions of the Goetia, but I think this one is my favourite for completeness, language and footnotes. Really, the footnotes make this edition. "Why the footnotes, Lucian?" I hear you ask. "Why not the editing of the actual text for accessibility, which is something that's really important with old grimoires such as this?"Well, reader, read on, and I shall tell. The history of the Ars Goetia is very long and very complicated. I shan't bore you with it, but trust me when I say it is both of these adjectives, in abundance. Even I find it difficult to follow, and I've done my own edition of the Ars Goetia (fully illustrated, you're welcome). The scholarship and writing from Skinner and Rankine is smart, easy-to-read, and holistic in its approach, and you simply will not find a better write-up of the historical and sociological context for the text anywhere. There's even discussion of why Ga'ap isn't a King of hell in the Ars Goetia when, astrologically speaking, he should be. That's how deep this goes. Stars. It's a bit expensive, but then, big books are, and I can't fault it. I like to judge my books by their covers, too - this one is ugly, but a pleasing weight and the proportions are handsome. I like to take the dust jacket off and sit around with it in coffee shops to look clever. Unfortunately, this always backfires because no-one even a little bit knows what The Goetia Of Dr Rudd is, and I don't drink coffee, so normally it's just me getting booted out of St*rbucks, clutching a large book and crying about demons.
