Is it very stiff or flexable, I need a spring to be flexable for a "thunderdrum"

When stretched, does this spring snap back to its original dimensions? How much additional length can it be stretched to and still "snap back"?

Will this metal rust? Thanks.

Could this be wrapped around a headphone cord, or is this too big in diameter?
