Sounds great for the price
Perfect for my smallish room. Great sub for the price I paid. Only small annoyance was that the sticker placed on top of the unit (which points out where the volume knob is! Really?!) is stuck on with a glue that took major effort to remove even using solvents.

Good speaker, auto-shut off flawed
The problem I experienced was that the speaker kept putting itself to sleep which is what the user manual says it will do when the audio signal is too low.ScenarioI have a high quality coax line of 100 ft delivering a passive signal to the sub from a high quality amp that provides a sub-out channel. With the volume of the receiver at 25%, the sub would not come on and would not stay on. I had to turn the amp to 75% to get the sub to come on; then turn the volume back to 25%. After about an hour, the sub would turn itself off while I was listening to music.Customer supportI wrote the company. Their replies took between 1 to 2 weeks and were never helpful. They wouldn't engage in problem solving with me.SolutionI purchased a line preamp for ~$50 which solved the problem. I got this:https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00I01ZNUS/I installed it right next to the sub (vs near the amp) and my problem went away. What's great about this speaker- The sound is great. I've used subs for decades to express sound in spaces. For an 8" sub, this one does a great job.- The size is perfect for standard shelves (i.e. 11.5" in depth). It can fit in a standard bookshelf which is the primary reason I got it. My customer asked for a sub that would fit in a shelf inside the island of their kitchen. What's not great about this speaker- The auto-shut-off feature is flawed, IMO- The crossover IMO needs to support lower frequencies. I personally feel I get a bit too much mid-range from the speaker.- The customer support team is terrible.

Paired with DT Demand D11s + Sonos Amp 2
This is exactly the sub I was hoping for. I have it in a basement room (fairly large at 13' x 24') with cinder block walls, a rug and couch. The sub is plugged in to a Sonos Amp 2 via the Sub out on the Amp, and paired with two Definitive Technologies Demand D11 bookshelf speakers (which are mounted on the DT stand purpose built for the Demand series). So, not a cheap setup by any means. Ironically enough, this sub is the cheapest component! After spending some time going through different genres of music and tuning with the volume knob on the side of the sub, the volume output from the Sonos Amp 2, as well as the crossover which can be controlled from the Amp as well, I managed to get exactly the right amount of bass dialed in. My goal was to add just enough punch to the bottom end to blend with the natural bass that the D11s themselves can already produce. Those speakers are no slouches, but they do lack the emphasis you get with a dedicated sub. The ProSub 800 generates more than enough bass if needed, but with this setup I was able to dial in the exact frequency I wanted as well as the level, so that the experience is one where an untrained listener will see the D11s, hear some bass heavy music, and their jaw will drop at how full and rich all frequencies of the spectrum sound, from the crystal clear highs which the D11s excel at, to the fully defined, powerful, but perfectly blended lows from the ProSub 800.I am one very happy camper with this setup!

Spend your money elsewhere
Very disappointed in this sub. Especially after reading all the great reviews. This sub only sounded ok at very low volumes. Once you turn it up, it gets very boomy and rattles like it’s coming apart. Movies sounded ok at best. Listening to music was just plain awful. Music sounded better after I disconnected the sub altogether. Perhaps I got a defective one and the driver itself was damaged or the box itself wasn’t sealed properly. All I know is it was an extreme disappointment at that price point. Returning to Amazon and looking into other brands.
