A brilliant analysis
The great strength of Robert Gerwarth's book is the immense clarity of his argument. Particularly in the sections on the development of the plan to kill the Jews during 1941, he is able to lay out with great precision the sometimes tortuous decision making process of the Nazis. Only those who have some knowledge of the history already will fully appreciate the enormity of his achievement in this regard. 1941 is a notoriously difficult year to fully understand, and yet Gerwarth makes sense of it. It is a truly magnificent piece of work.

Superb
An outstanding piece of work: so well researched and eminently readable. Probably the best biography I have ever read. If you have any interest in the history of Germany in the 20th century, then put this at the top of your wanted list.

Five Stars
A clear account of the rise of Heydrich in the Nazi party due to an early friendship with Himmler.
