On What Grounds

Clare arrives at her coffee shop only to find her assistant unconscious at the bottom of the stairs. It looks like an accident but Clare is sure it wasn’t, can she find out the truth?This was a fun cosy mystery. Now I'm not a coffee drinker so I got lost in all the coffee preps and references but that aside I really enjoyed the story. This was a nice easy read and ended just perfectly. I'm looking forward to finding the others in the series. Clare is instantly likeable and its always good to read one where the Police don't totally ignore the main character and assume she knows nothing. A fun mystery perfect for any coffee lovers.

I found this book recommended on the blog of another writer I admire, and I love series, and quirky detective type stuff. But sadly this was flawed. The idea was OK and the plot wasn't bad. But the characters were terribly cliched, the coffee thing was beyond annoying, it was far too invasive. You got the impression the main character showered in coffee, sprinkled it on her pizza and drove a coffee coloured car. Tea drinkers were disapproved of and those who drink decaff downright insulted. That is me by the way, some people cannot tolerate caffiene for medical reasons, it's not exactly good for you, nor is it great to insult your readers perhaps? But the thing that really put me off was the terrible Mills and Boon type sugary sickly romancey stuff running through the whole thing. I won't be buying any others from this series, and this one is off to the charity shop!

1. It is a really good read.2. I like that you can gradually grow with the Claire Character as she learns to be a detective.3. Anyone who likes a good book with a good twist at the end.

This book was recommended to me as I've read most of the Agatha Raisin books. Its was very easy to read and I was engrossed in it very quickly. I was surprised at who had done it. Have purchased most of the series for my kindle now and can't wait to read them

Clare Cosi überinmmt die Leitung des Village Blend, eines historischen Cafes im Village, das ihrer Ex-Schwiegermutter gehört und sticht gleich beim erneuten Einzug in das Appartment über dem Cafe in ein Wespennest- sie findet Annabelle Hart bewusstlos im Blend ... und damit nicht genug- ihr Ex Ehemann Matteo hat sich auch im Blend einquartiert ...Da kommt der gutaussehende Polizist namens MichaelQuinn gerade noch recht, der mit Clares tatkräftiger hilfe den Fall aufklärt... oder klärt vielmehr Clare ihn mit Quinns Hilfe auf ... ;) - lest selbst ...Einige Monate hatte ich diesen ersten Band ungelesen im SUB, bis ich die Feiertage nutzte und ich kann jedem, der ein Faible für cozys hat nur wärmstens empfehlen- lest die ganz Serie. Die Autorin hat eine amüsant heitere Art die Charaktere und ihr Verhalten zu beschreiben... Clare Cosi ist ein ungemein sympathischer, humvorvoller Charakter, mit einem gewissen Hang zum Sarkasmus, was mich persönlich sehr anspricht...Der Fall ist gut aufgebaut und hat am Ende die ein oder andere Überraschung...Genial ist das Setting und die Atmosphäre getroffen- das Village Blend entsteht quasi vor dem inneren Auge des Lesers .. man kann den Kaffeduft riechen und möchte unbedingt eine der zahlreichen Spezialitäten des Hauses ...Nett sind auch die Rezepte ...Zum Schmunzeln fand ich speziell die Aktion von Clare und Matt im Waldorf Astoria ...ÄUßERST EMPFEHLENSWERTfür Cozy Liebhaber imt einem Hang zur Stadt NY und einem Faible für Espresso und Co ...Alle weiteren Teile sind bestellt und werden schnellst möglich mit einer guten Tesse Espresso verschlungen ...Tipp: Wer auch historische Cozys mag und ein Faible für NY hat- lest mal die Molly Murphy Serie v.
