Perfect for wild camping
This bottle solves a fundamental issue I was having with wild camping. It's often difficult to find somewhere flat and reasonably sheltered to pitch a tent that is also next to a source of water. As a result, I have spent quite a few evenings wandering about looking for a campsite when when already very tired or camping somewhere but having to ration water. With this bottle I can find a sensible looking stream on the map towards the end of the day's walking, fill up, and then pitch wherever is convenient - even if there is no water nearby. The cap means that I can safely add it to the outside of my pack without worrying about it spilling. The bottle itself is everything I could reasonably want - light, squishable, doesn't leak etc. It is a bit more painful to fill from a stream that a normal bottle and so I tend to fill up my drinking water bottle and then pour it into the Platypus - repeating until the Platypus is full. (Issue solved!)

Why use anything else?
It's pretty hard for me to imagine a better product than the Platypus range. They are so simple yet so effective. These bottles are virtually weightless when empty so all you're carrying is the drink that goes in it. When they are empty they pack down to a tiny size - an asset when backpacking. When they are full they are totally flexible so they can be crammed into an already full rucksack. And I can say from several years of experience that these do not leak!Honestly even an adult sitting/jumping on the thing won't spill the contents. The standard Platypus bitevalve and tube can be used with these. So one idea is to use this basic bottle as a refill for the hydration pack version by just swapping the tube over.So yes I am a big fan of their stuff. The only down-side is the small opening makes refilling in streams difficult. If you are more of an urban type and plan to refill from a tap then this is for you.

Great bit of kit!
Platypus bottles are absolutely great! I used them to climb Kilimanjaro back in 2015 and never had any issues. Re bought some this time and again performed flawlessly. Really lightweight and easy to pack into any space. The 2L bottles can actually take a bit more than 2L

Great in use, poor for storage
Used this on a several day hiking trip, works great when you're using it to carry water. However once it's empty, it's utterly impossible to really dry it out. Even leaving it uncapped for several days on a radiator it's still full of water droplets on the inside. So just bear that in mind.

Nice design, but stinky
It's a good water bottle, and the collapsable design is really useful for when you need to free up space in your backpack. However, after using it daily for about 2 weeks it developed a very funky smell, even with washing. I ended up binning it because the smell wouldn't dissipate.
