Good Pitch Pipe
This pitch pipe is exactly what I needed. It was in terrific condition and even came with a little instruction manual. Well worth the money.

Kratt Pitch Pipes: Not always perfect pitch
As a 32 year Barbershop Society member, director, and officer, I certainly do not want to criticize the Kratt Master Key company. The pitch pipes are made in America by fine craftsmen and women. This company has been so loyal and helpful to our beloved Society. However, I am forced to say that exact pitch can be a problem with some of their new pitch pipes.I am not talking about a year old pitch pipe. All of you barbershoppers know that the "Bb" - and other frequently used notes - are going to give out after a year or so. I am talking about new units. We often use two pitch pipes in the chorus, and they often do not match exactly. Some of the guys with exceptional pitch sensitivity will always point this out. If you only have one pitch pipe, it's not so noticeable. The pitch variation might be only a quarter of a tone.Awareness of this problem has increased by the ease of getting electronic pitch from your cell phone or the small electronic devices. I think these are all a pain to use in performance. I still use a Kratt Master Key. However, I will go to a music store and TEST EVERY ONE with an electronic device I bring with me. I find that only one out of three Kratt Master Key units will have ALL the tones exactly match up.The pitch pipe I bought from Amazon had seven of the tones sound sharp. I should have sent it back, but I waited too long and eventually just threw it away.

I throw away the note selector. That part is kind of useless.
When you are on stage or in a group, fiddling with that little plastic sliding annoyance just slows everything down. The pipe however, is top notch. I usually buy a few at a time because with continual use, they will drift slightly.

Slide -- good! Bad notes :-(
The slide that picks notes is a good feature! Let's you find the note you need by feel without looking. This pitch pipe has some notes that don't sound well. Specifically, on this pitch pipe, it's the high and low Fs. I'm not returning it for exchange, because I expect that the replacement will also have bad notes, and I don't need F for what I'm singing next. In the past, I've bought several of these. All have bad notes. Maybe another manufacturer does better?

Still superior to electronic pitchpipe on my iPhone
The Master Key Pitch Pipe is as much a tradition in barbershop harmony as is the barbershop seventh. The pitch pipe is as much a symbol as it is an audio cue that we're ready to sing. The Master Key is always ready, it's easy to use, and easy to maintain. As with any fine instrument, you have to keep it clean - a dustball that finds its way into any of the crevices can be disasterous. But there are no batteries to fail, and no searching for the app if you phone shuts off! This little round pitch pipe is the only way to go. (Just make sure you get the right key- F to F for men's groups, C to C for women's.)
