Dorman 31002 Steering Coupling Disc Kit Universal Fit

I don't like most of the parts that this brand makes but this is good. These "rag joints" are simple and made of recycled tires so it is hard to make a bad one.

I installed this in my 02 S10 ext cab 2wd to replace the original oem rag joint. I used a grinder and punch to remove the original hardware. I didn't use the provided hardware. I got some assorted length 5/16 inch bolts and used locknuts (see pictures). This eliminated most of the play in the steering wheel. I didn't give it 5 Stars because it looked like the kit is missing two bolts/nuts.

So this is an initial review for anyone with an old truck like mine. I struggled to find an option of reasonable price to fix my ford steering issue. It has a one piece riveted lower steering shaft rag joint assembly. With some work and modification i was able to make this work like a charm. I had to cut and drill the rivets. I took the shaft apart and was able to use this to reassemble and replace my rag joint. Worked like a charm. You will have to buy different bolts. I went with 5/16" x 2 inch to make sure i had plenty of length. I also used lock washers as a temporary fix until i can get to a hardware store that isnt out of nylon lock nuts. The holes lined up perfect and everything else fit as it should. It was a bit of work without a drill press but with a dremel tool and hand drill with a metal bit i made it work. I will add to this review to update how well it held up. I just didn't want to fork out over $200 for a truck i paid $500 for to get an updated steering shaft. I am a happy camper to have a $10 fix for a discontinued part.coming back to this it is still holding up well. while i won't endorse using this for anything other than it's intended use i can say that modifying it to your needs is definitely possible. the flexible option this provides for someone cheap like me with some mechanical ability to do some simple cutting and drilling is well worth the money. i would expect this will have many applications beyond what the recommended compatibility lists.

This unit worked well in my application. It was a challenge to remove the old worn out unit, however, the new unit installed easy. I had to use different bolts other than the ones provided in the kit.

it don't fit. it's to big. you would need a machine shop to make it fit original steering mechanism. this would be dangerous to install. it would be hard to stabilize it on the steering column with the parts they send.

A buddy was looking at spending $200+ on a steering shaft for an 02 escalade, but this fit perfectly and it tightened up the steering like a new vehicle. Sure, it took a little more work, but if you're mechanically inclined, this is an easy fix.

Used it to fix my 1995 Silverado. Had to purchase hardware to make it work but it works great!

Used this to replace the rag joint in my 2002 Chevy S10 Extreme. The nasty one on the right is the OEM part from 20 years ago. You can see just how warped these things become. Part was great, only used some of the hardware as I was able to salvage most from the old one. It eliminated almost all of my steering slop.

Installed on my 05 jimmy 4wd, make sure you buy 5/16 hardware if you still have the original piece with rivets on your truck.

My trashy white truck Courtney is on track and drivable. A simple fix for sloppy behaviour.

Fit great, only had to add new bolts, the ones that comes with the kit are too wierd
