Q: Do i have to use the 232 port ot does the usb connection map as a com port?

You do not have to use the RS232 port, I use one of these to work RS485 over a BacNet MS/TP network to find my devices. The USB does setup as a com port and is powered from the USB port, the device works flawlessly for what I need it for. For the price, it is well worth it as I use many protocols over the RS485 for device discovery. I am currently looking for a WiFi version of this or a type like this, I work building automation and devices like this make my job much easier.

Yes, it will work for whatever RS232/RS485/RS422 protocol you decide to use.

Q: Can i convert from rs232 to ttl?

Hi, Sorry,it can't convert from rs232 to ttl. It can only support USB TO RS232, USB TO RS485, USB TO TTL (UART), not support RS232 to TTL. And it can't support USB to convert to RS232, RS485 and TTL at the same time. And RS232, RS485 and TTL cannot be converted mutually. It only support USB to RS232, RS485 or TTL.
