Nice hardware. Nice software (I am in the biz). Overall this is a great gadget and at a nice price to boot. I called customer support to recommend a couple minor improvements and they could not have been more pleasant.

I know why they call it drop now. If you drop it one time, and it falls a couple feet onto the floor, it’s finished. Broken, dead, nada. Up until that point I would have suffered through the crappy iOS software that looks like it was written by a jr school kid on a weekend. But this whole thing is garabage. Don’t waste your hard earned money on these bobbles

Recently used for a 12 day camping trip in Alaska. It’s nice to get actual readings of temperature and humidity when rating and reviewing our gear. Able to see temps dropped to 24 degrees at our tent site, as opposed to the weather report for the nearest town saying the “low” was 29. Five degrees is a big difference when trying to stay warm in a sleeping bag Set to hourly readings, so battery should last awhile. Bluetooth picks up quickly. CON: Would love to have an altitude reading as well.

I wish there was an on off button. I only want to use it when I am outside. To prevent the battery from draining when I am not using it I have to open the back and remove the battery. When in use it preforms as advertised. The app on my iPhone works great.

Great little device with accurate & reliable Data.

Update 11-2023: I am a bit disappointed to say that the battery cover no longer closes properly. Despite only removing the cover once or twice to replace the battery, one of the tabs that hold the cover in place broke. My Drop D3 has not been left exposed to the elements, and was only outdoors when I used it for camping. A real shame, and based on this I am downgrading my rating of this product. The Kestrel Drop D3 is an excellent device and does its job nicely. All good on that end. The Kestrel LiNK app… well, that is a mix of good and bad. There are minor things like setting the device color to match your device, which is a nice touch, except the app appears to lose this information. This has happened several times and not clear why this happens. The biggest issue with the app is it seems to have a mind of its own when it comes to automatically connecting and syncing data. Sometimes it connects, sometimes you have to hit connect, sometimes the connect/dashboard button does not show unless you refresh the device screen. The other thing is that it does not always sync the data and I have not found a reliable method to make this happen. Also, it sometimes syncs the realtime information, but not the logged information. Unfortunately, the LiNK app behavior really gets in the way of using the device. The app is key, as without the app the device just collects data and nothing more.

This device is great for monitoring weather observations and keeping the data to plot/explore later. The resolution is great and so is the customizability. I left it out during a winter storm, and it continued to work as temperatures reached -5 F, much lower than the operational temperatures. My only complaint is the app being buggy. I was doing a 20 minute, high resolution session, and the app glitched and the data was completely lost. Sometimes data is just missing from logs too, for no good reason. Still a great device for what you pay.
