Perfect introduction to different types of bugs, for young children
I ordered a Kids’ Outdoor Explorer Kit for my 6 years old grandson, and bought this little book to give with the kit. The listing gives very little detail, so I didn’t know what it was like inside - but I have always loved Ladybird books so, at this price, I took a chance on it (despite some of the reviews). It was also to make up a £20+ order (for free delivery!).The book was published in 2008, but its content is still very relevant today. I had hoped it would list, and show pictures of, individual bugs common to UK gardens, ponds, parklands, rivers, and beaches etc. as shown on the cover, for identification purposes. I assumed it would give their names, along with some information about them - in other words, that it would be more explicit. But, in fact, it is a perfect introductory book and is one that my grandson can read, understand, and learn from.In simple terms, this book explains what bugs are, what their bodies are like, about their life cycles, and how they move. It also gives some information on bugs on land, underground, in the air, and on water. It mentions bug societies (bugs who live in groups) and ends with a brief bugs fact file, and a glossary…. and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. My grandson will too!
