THE BEST OF THE PSYCHEDELIC FURS

I was a huge fan of The Psychedelic Furs when I was growing up. I practically wore out my vinyl copy of their first album. Their sound was unlike anything on the radio at the time. It all seemed so rebellious and vibrant.Like many of the old '80's bands, "Best of" compilations are now everywhere. I settled on this one because it had most of the songs I liked. There will always be those who fuss (like me) because their personal favorite has been left off the disc. But basically all of the essential tracks are here. This CD covers a wide range of favorites, from pop classics like "Pretty in Pink" and "The Ghost in You," to the sublime "Imitation of Christ."It doesn't appear that the material has been remastered at all, but the music holds up in spite of our technologically sophisticating palettes. And to be honest, why shouldn't it? The Psychedelic Furs were a post-punk band born out of the slam-dancing movement that propelled the college crowd into the 1980's. Raw was an essence. Basic was a purpose. Unpolished was intentional. To glisten these tracks with too much clarity might actually take away from their identity.The CD booklet yields no useful information, but that's irrelevant. What matters is what these songs had to say about my generation and about the evolution of music at the time.If you're new to this band, this is a good place to start. If you're an old fan, like myself, this is a fine collection. Pop it in the stereo and dance all night. Then take some ibuprofen. We're not as young as we used to be.

This is a pretty decent greatest hits collection if you are just starting to listen to this band and getting to know them. But if you are a long time regular fan then you may feel this cd would be incomplete because there are so many other great songs to put on here. There are absolutely no songs from their last two albums Book Of Days and World Outside. I would think at least some from World Outside since it actually had some good singles for them. But all in all it's a pretty good cd with mostly some of their more popular songs.

One of the best bands of the 80s - if you had to have one representation of the new wave you could do no better than this.

Si quieren conocer la historia más relevante de este grupo, este disco es una buena alternativa.Es de esos grupos de los 80's que mantenían un perfil bajo, que sólo los entendidos conocían su nombre completo, pero sus temas todo el mundo los concocía.Un grupo bastante representativo de su estilo de música, así como también The Church, The Bolshoi, Ice House, Simple Minds, etc.Recomendable, aunque faltan algunas versiones de 12" que eran muy escuchadas en ese tiempo.

Superb retro analogue new wave music that still sounds fresh, interesting and futuristic.Highly recommended to anyone who has an interest in 80s style punk and new wave music - The Psychedelic Furs are one of the greatest groups of the era.A definite five star highly recommended purchase.Outstanding.

not everyone's cup of tea this group. But I think they are great .A good album for checking out the band
