Great read and super practical
I read this book in one sitting. It was very easy to read and understand. While some of us know some of this information, there is always something new to learn or things that you intended to get started on but have been procrastinating about, like investing. It's also good to have all of this information in one place. I appreciated the tools offered to help organize your finances. The highlights for me in this book were the chapters on credit cards and making them work for you, investing and how approachable the process can be, because at times it seems daunting to me, and FIRE. I keep saying I want to retire early, but I didn't think of the pathway and this provides me with that. Thank you for sharing your mistakes in your journey and how you have evolved along the way.

One of the best investments I have made was buying this book
Naseema McElroy takes readers on a relatable and empowering money management and debt-slaying journey where she uses her personal stories of financial turnaround and outlines a step-by-step process that is applicable for people who are ready to take a hold of their financial lives. Smart Money is a book about money, but also about life, using humor and engaging stories to take a topic that can be overwhelming and turn it into empowerment, I highly recommend.

Good Overview For The Beginner
As a society, we do a rather poor job of educating our youth on money or to be a bit more accurate, proper money management. It seems that most young people are poorly informed when it comes to the basic concepts of personal finances.Naseema McElroy, author of Smart Money – The Step-By-Step Personal Finance Plan to Crush Debt, has written a good, comprehensive guide to a) eliminating personal debt and b) establishing a sound financial plan for life. This book starts with the basics and covers all major elements of personal finance. It gives a wide overview rather than a deep dive into any particular topic. Therefore, it is more suited for those looking for a basic understanding of the concepts of personal finances. It is a good starting point. If you want to go deep into a particular topic – say index mutual funds – you will probably need another book. The book is written in a conversational style and the concepts are clearly explained. The information is presented in 9 steps or 9 chapters starting with figuring out exactly where you are financially and ending with living your best life on a sound financial footing. The other chapters covering budgeting, banking, credit cards, taxes, retirement, investing and planning for major purchases. This is a good book for learning the basic concepts. The author has chosen to focus on a rather broad overview of personal finances. If you are looking for a more in-depth exploration of a particular topic, this book will not fill that need.
